Questioning the importance of decor

Lindsey, on October 28, 2020 at 5:39 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15
I recently attended a wedding and really did not may much attention to the decor - me who is planning a wedding and 24/7 looks at wedding decor on pinterest.. Of course I noticed it but it didn’t really make any kind of impact. Because of this I’m completely questioning spending any real chunk of money on decor - which was once my priority.

Realistically most guests will not care or even notice that type of stuff, they’ll be more concerned with food, drinks, dessert, dancing, etc. Of course I’ll still decorate, but i’m completely questioning the extent of the decor now!! Anyone else feel this way??

I kind of know that 90% of the things I am doing around decor, flowers, aesthetics, etc. I am doing for myself/FH. Smiley xd You're right, most guests won't notice and/or care, so as long as you acknowledge that you're doing it mostly for yourself, then your expectations will be appropriate and you can make decisions accordingly. Guests care about food and drinks, Lol.

Thank you! I have this internal need to decorate everything just like a Pinterest board lol.. That would be incredibly costly and the fact that guests won’t really care either way takes some of the burden off.

Yeah, I never pay attention to decor. We had some flower centerpieces and some tealight candles and called it a day. It looked elegant and understated, which worked for me lol.

I have attended different types of wedding. I do pay attention and I do remember my favorites. Some decor are not my taste, so I don’t remember much of those. I guess it matters to me. The decor, the location, the music, they all matters to me 😬

The most I pay attention to our decor is the color of the tablecloths, plates, napkins & napkin rings. Our venue already has centerpieces included that add elegance to the tables. Questioning the importance of decor 1

I think it depends on the venue to be honest! Some venues “less is more!” Other venues, they need something to look at.

Yes agree! That is precisely why I didn't focus on decor at my wedding, went minimal. Venue still looked nice, just not fussy or wasteful. People care about food, drinks and music!

Decor is one of those things that only a bride in planning stages notices or cares about. Your guests will notice for all of 10 seconds, if there is decor or not, if they like it, and then onto enjoying the wedding.

I have to make an active effort to remember the centerpieces and other decor at a wedding. And even those fade over time. Keep it simple (and cheap)!

I think it depends on which kind of decor! We went all out on our chuppah decor, since our chuppah was in literally every single photo from the ceremony. However, centerpieces are something that most guests don't remember. If there's a particular area where you know a majority of your photos will take place (i.e. an arch), then I would focus on that and take it easy on the other decor that the guests probably won't remember or care about

If it is important to you then I say go for it. If you are creative (I’m not implying that your aren’t) you can do it in a budget

It really depends for me what the stand out thing is. Went to a wedding where they spent a fortune for the wedding decor and so of course it was gorgeous but there was not anything notable other than that aha.

If you pay for a venue which is well decorated, as in pleasing to the eye, then you should need a minimum of decoration unless you have some theme you want added.

Agree. I realized through planning my own wedding I could not remember any details about the lat few weddings I had been to. For me personally we spent less in that department for that reason so if you do not want to spend a lot you dont have to

I've honestly never been to a wedding where I've noticed the decor beyond "can I see the person over this centerpiece?!" and I consider myself a pretty observant person.

We purposefully chose a venue with gorgeous and diverse ceremony, cocktail hour and reception spaces so that decor was unnecessary and honestly would have been clutter. Our venue had unfussy linens that were exactly our style, and the florals I wanted were also minimal in style (palm plants scattered throughout the reception space, clear hurricane vases with simple palm leaves for centerpieces).
