Questions about hosting the best shower ever.

Jamiely, on June 22, 2016 at 5:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Hello -

We're currently planning my friend's bridal shower, and one of the other bridesmaids mentioned giving favors for the bridal shower. I know that it's not necessary for a wedding, so would it be the same for a shower? I want to keep the cost low (we're already paying around $150/per bridesmaid). If you think it's a must, what would you suggest would be a good favor?

Also, as a spin-off from the shower game thread, what prizes have you given for games? I'm not 100% sure we'll be playing any, but if we do, I'd like to be armed with suggestions for prizes.

I just had my shower and it was so lovely. We didn't get favors or anything but had nice games and prizes were like a bath set and stuff. Below are some things my made of honor did for my shower.

I would skip favors and add extra booze. As for prizes, something from Bath and Bodyworks would be nice. Or a small bottle of champagne.

The other game was how well do you know the bride. Good luck! I'm sure everything will turnout fabulous.

I won a prize at a bridal shower and it was a mason jar with cotton balls, nail polish, a mini nail filer, and a nail cleaner. Then they painted the top and tied a ribbon around it. It was very cute!

I've seen flower seed favors for wedding and baby showers - they're usually cute, inexpensive, and can be planted to create a pot of flowers by the recipient if the wish. I don't feel like they are absolutely necessary, though.

I agree with jasmine. I did that as a gift once and total for 5 mason jars and all of the nail accessories it was maybe $20? You can get the mason jars and nail files/cotton balls at the dollar store

I have always been to a shower with favors. I've seen everything from little nail polish bottles, personalized wine glasses, plants, candles, etc. The BEST favors (wedding or otherwise) IMO are edible!! For my friend's shower, our friend bought a mold to home-make chocolate covered oreo pops. She melted white chocolate and then drizzled pink chocolate/icing over top to match the shower colors, wrapped it in cellophane and put a bow on it. They were delish and looked awesome, but she said it was pretty easy! You could also order cake pops, chocolate covered oreos, etc. if you aren't much of a baker.

For prizes, I suggest hitting up Target, dollar store, TJ Maxx, etc. Great/easy ideas are bath and body products, cute stationary (pens, to-do lists, etc.), bottle of wine, spa/nail theme (nail polish, file, those one-time use face masks, etc.), a large candle, etc. All the prizes should cost less than $10 each.

Natalie – That looks gorgeous. We played the ring game for a bridal shower, but it was bangle bracelets, and then we could keep them. I’m not fan of bangles (I have huge knuckles), so I made sure to intentionally lose around some of the younger guests. I totally forgot about that game!

Amanda – I’m definitely down for more booze. I think we’re doing an open bar package with the restaurant, so we should be good. I think the ideas of mini champagne bottles are great! There’s some more booze.

Jasmine and Heather – That does sound cute, and sounds definitely seems like it can be done economically.

Zaz- Flower seeds is great! The bride has recently gotten into gardening since her grandmother passed away, so that’s a great way to incorporate that.

Annakay – I agree edible favors are definitely the best. I think we have a bridesmaid that loves to bake, so maybe if she’s down for it, she can handle the favors.

I can’t believe I was so dense about prizes. The only time I’ve won a prize at a bridal shower, it was a $25 gift card, which is a little out of our price range if we’re doing multiple games. Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

I can't remember if this is the site we ordered from for a recent baby shower, but this link gives you the general idea of what I was talking about:

My girls did mini lotions out from bath and body works. They have coupons all the time so they said it was pretty cost effective!

The best shower prize I got was bath and body works soap. I've also seen people give inexpensive stuff from Home Goods, like a mason jar glass set, as prizes. Another great prize would be a bottle of wine or a Starbucks card. As for favors, I'd go for something edible. My mom gave mini candles for my shower favors. Normally I like candles, but I hated the way these smell. That's a risk you take with candles.

Favors: Edible is always best, but nail polish (in their wedding colors even) is common and affordable.

Prizes: I've gotten an oil defuser at one shower. Bath and Body Works things are common. For my friend's shower, I grabbed a cute Lily Pulizer knockoff travel mug from Target's clearance section.

It's a nice touch and can be done on the cheap, but it's totally optional.

We did mint favours from Party City. They have a few options.

We gave hand sanitizers from BBW and included a nailpolish in the little burlap baggy.

    As for games we played

    • put a ring on it like the ones pictured above.

•A bridal shower poem I found on Pinterest. It's kind of like pass the gift but this is for the whole shower guests. They pass the gift to the one with the longest hair, recently married, stuff like that.

    • Another shower poem where you add up points depending on what they're wearing

    • And also a memory gane where the guests write a memory they have with the bride and the bride needs to guess who wrote it, if she guesses wrong the guest gets a prize.

    These were super fun!

I threw my friend a tea themed bridal shower and for the favors I took wrapped tea bags and honey sticks and put them in little bags with a tag that said "Love is Brewing" we only play the tp wedding dress game but an activity she really liked is I bought a notebook and had the ladies put advice and memories in it.

I had a HUGE basket in my closet of soaps, body spray, bath salts, lotion, body wash exc I had gotten as gifts for Christmas, from other showers or as free gifts for spending so much at a store. I used all that stuff for games and favors at my sisters shower. I had enough to make two small gift baskets and for everyone to have a favor plus I still have some left over. Re gifting at its finest.
