Questions about Zales

Seale, on October 8, 2017 at 2:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Today I have started looking into jeweler options for resizing my wedding band and having my rings soldered together. It looks as though Zales can do same day resizing, which is great, but I know I will likely have to leave my rings behind for them to be soldered. Now, my question is how have those who have dealt with Zales in the past felt about the experience afterwards? Do they have similar reviews/complaints as Kay's? Would I be better off going to an independent jeweler?

Thanks in advance!

I had my ring sized with Zales and they shipped it off to be done. It took about 2 weeks for it to come back and they bent the metal on some of the side detailing. I didn't bother having them fix it because I knew it would be more hassle and take longer to get the ring back.

I think Kay and Zales are owned by the same company. DH has bought jewelry for me from Kay in the past and I have enjoyed their customer service way more.

I've never had to go through Zales for resizing but I did get my wedding band (ring guard/enhancer) from them. My engagement ring is a family heirloom that needed to be resized. I took it to a private jeweler on Jeweler's Row in my city (Philly). It was 50 bucks and I had it back within 2 hours ! I'd definitely go independent. Chain stores are only good for their warranty.

GO TO A LOCAL JEWELER. Wayyyy too many horror stories with these. I prefer one-hour jewelers who you can watch resize your ring. You can make sure they don't take out the diamonds and replace with CZ and you know they'll do it right and won't "lose it in the mail." Avoid big-box stores at all costs.

I wasn't aware those three were all owned by the same company! There are a few independent jewelers in my hometown. I'll definitely go through one of them. I don't want my rings to come back damaged or anything like that!! Thank you everyone!

Don't look for *just* an independent jeweler. Look for a jeweler who is aligned with AGS. They are held to standards that are dedicated to consumer protection.

If you're going to go to a chain store, I recommend Ashcroft & Oak. They have 80 stores nation wide, are family owned, and have on site jewelers, so no shipping out the ring. I took my ering there because the place FH got it closed. They are cheaper and such nice, kind people.

@MrsBdeG Thanks for letting me know that. I'll keep an eye out while I search.

@Red I'll look into them, see if they have a location nearby.

Here's a wedding horror story from a couple of weeks ago regarding Zales' sibling company Kay:

My wedding band was custom made by Zales and I had an amazing experience. No complaints here.

Sent it in to be resized... came back too BIG and crooked 3 weeks later... sent it in again (picked out new head and got it sized smaller) and the manager calls me 3 weeks later that it looks a little crooked and they can not identify the ID number on the diamond so they HAD TO SEND IT BACK AGAIN... still waiting going on 5 weeks now... horrible!!!

My engagement ring is form Zales. they have been great so far. Just be aware that if you buy the warranty you MUST bring the ring in every 6 months with paperwork. they do not input it into the computer for you. I got screwed bc they never told us that and for the first like year I was told they were inputting it into the system and then I was informed that they don't do that by an employee.
