Rain on your wedding day - whether it's outside or not...

HoundMama, on April 22, 2013 at 11:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

So with 12 days out, and a better look at weather patterns, I'm wondering about rain on my wedding day. How many of you ladies, who are already married, had rain on your wedding day? Obviously, if you had an outdoor wedding that kind of shifted things around a bit, but did you find that it made a bigger pain to get around in your dress and whatnot? Just curious.

We didn't have rain but.... we had a sunrise wedding and the maintenance guy had forgot to turn the sprinklers off!!!! ( they were on a timer) luckily no one was there yet. my step son was our photog. and his camera got wet but it was fine. we thought he was going to have a heart attack. he got wet more than his camera! lol we just pulled the chairs in moved the tables and set up inside.

Congratulation you are almost there!! so exciting. :o)

we had an outdoor ceremony on a terrace overlooking the beach... the morning of the wedding, it POURED. our ceremony wasnt until 5pm, but the hotel makes the decision early about whether to move the event or not since they have to do set up etc.

oddly, it didn't bother me. i looked out the window, saw the rain... my phone started blowing up with people saying "dont freak out! it will stop!" -- by that point i was so incredibly happy it was my wedding day i didn't even care.

luckily for us it stopped, and everything went on as planned.

Well it's good to know that it didn't mess anything up for you guys! We aren't having an outdoor ceremony, but there aren't a lot of options for photos other than outside in my hometown - so I'm hoping things will be kept to a minimum if it does rain. I just know it makes it harder to get around in a wedding dress when it's pouring down. :-s

I am worrying about the same thing. We are in Iowa and this year its been so odd weather wise. It was 70 yesterday which would be fantastic next weekend, but last week and then a day this week its only supposed to be 40's and rainy. YUCK! We are doing indoors but want to stand in front of the open doors and like you mentioned outside pictures etc. My hair will not last if its cruddy! Lol

Good luck weather wise to both of us!

There is no sense in stressing out about weather. No one can control it, lol.

I was in one wedding where it rained. I was in second grade so I don't remeber much. Expect the bride had to go quickly through the front of the church toget to the back. The plan had been to walk around outside. Luckily the chruch had partions toclose off the wings.

I personally am praying for no rain.

We were having an indoor ceremony, but our pictures were supposed to be outside in an arborarium... it wasn't just misting or lightly raining... it was turenchal rain for the entire day... so my dress never touched the ground outside (I have one picture where we are standing outside of a building and we are holding the umbrella and we are actaully standing on a plastic tablecloth so my dress doesn't get soaked).

It didn't affect my ceremony, except that I had to have an umbrella held by another person for the walks from the house ot car and car to pictures etc etc....

Luckily we could still have a few pictures taken in the gazebo at the arborarium, but the rest had to be moved to the inside of my best mans mom's house....

The rain didn't hurt the day, but looking at my plain, inside pictures makes me a little sad now.....

There is a payless by our hotel so if it does rain, I'm buying all my girls rainboots and nice umbrellas. It'll still be an awesome day no matter what!

We had a light shower as I was heading to the church for my first wedding. The weather was such a huge deal to me leading up to the wedding, but when it actually happened on my day, I didn't care in the least. It was such a non-issue.

It was not an outdoor wedding/reception.

I live in Northern MN, and we're getting snow (more of it) tonight. We had over 41 inches just in APRIL. So, my wedding is 6/15, which means the ground most likely won't be dry. Last year, we had a flood on 6/20, so if it rains we're having the outdoor ceremony inside. It might be cramped but oh well.

It rained on my wedding day. It was annoying, but we just went with it, you can't control the weather. I had my hair done in the morning and then got ready at the church, so that wasn't really affected. We had planned to do outside pictures at an arboretum in between the ceremony and reception, and we had to wait a bit to leave the church because it was pouring by the time the ceremony ended. We didn't have enough umbrellas for the BP, so we stopped by one of the BM's parent's house (in the limo) to pickup more umbrellas! Then the arboretum was so full of mosquitoes, that we didn't stay long, so we didn't get as many outdoor pictures as I hoped.

We're still just under a year out from our date, but I've already decided against the tented reception I had originally wanted on my family's farm. I realized it's tornado season! lol. Talk about a memorable wedding. I live in Phoenix, AZ and the weather is pretty much always the same, so I almost forgot about unpredictable east coast weather (wedding is in Charlotte, NC)

I know no one can control the weather and it's pointless worrying about it, but I know myself and I just know I'll spend a year freaking out about collapsed tents and ruined receptions if I don't move my reception indoors. Smiley winking

I *love* the idea of buying cute rain boots and umbrellas for BP on the wedding day! If it looks like it's going to rain, I'll do just that for getting around town. I bet it would make for adorable pictures too!

@Jamie - you can look up 15-day forecasts but those are about as useless as ice cubes in the arctic - even the 5 day ones change by the end of the week!

I'm already having an indoor wedding since I'm getting married in January, so I am absolutely no help. However, I just had to let you know that since I saw the title of your post this morning I've been running around all day singing:

"IT'S LIKE RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY, IT'S A FREE RIIIIIIIDE WHEN YOU'VE ALREADY PAID..."

Apologies for this being a completely unproductive comment Smiley smile

It poured on our wedding day. We switched our outdoor ceremony indoors (always an option) and made sure the wedding party and parents had umbrellas. We didn't really have any problems, aside from ceremony decor not meshing as well as I wanted (indoor vs. outdoor) and we only took a few pictures outside (I was looking forward to landscape shots).

Lexi, we were married in Phx and totally didn't expect rain (though it does rain a bit in December). Every other weekend was sunny and in the 70s. Of course our wedding weekend was cold, dark, and wet. Go figure Smiley smile

We had an outdoor wedding/inside reception. It was so nasty the morning of our wedding, it was gloomy and raining. I felt so bad because our moms were setting up the ceremony site in the rain, while my hubby and I took care of some other details.

Everyone asked me in the days prior to the wedding what the back up plan was if it rained and I just kept saying bring an umbrella! We could have moved the wedding to the reception site if we had to but I definitely didn't want to.

Luckily for us, as we were driving to the ceremony, the clouds parted and out came the sun. We were so happy!

And my hubby says the same thing someone else mentioned...people only say rain is good luck to make you feel better abour rain on your special day....but I feel that it is good luck!
