Rain on your wedding--officially freaking out!

TJB11616, on January 7, 2016 at 1:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

Well..January is supposed to be one of the dryest times of the year and out of all days it's calling for 60% of rain and thunderstorms. We have a backup, but an ugly one! I'm really upset! I know it's still over a week away but I'm starting to panic. Any other south Fl brides here? I'm trying to remain calm.

My wedding is next January... I live in Kansas... my greatest fear is that it will snow/ice so much that nobody will come to the wedding!

Just remember... at the end of the day, you're married, and that's what really matters

I would be freaking out too but let me just say that I've seen some amazing pictures of brides in the rain. Just make the best of it... And maybe buy a pretty umbrella for pictures! Smiley smile

For my sisters wedding, we delayed the ceremony a half hour to see if it would stop , which it did down to a trickle, then my sister (who heaven bless her didn't let anything phase her) said Lets do this, the guest list was not huge and it was the closest friends and family so they all stood under umbrellas together with hot cocoa and cider for the ceremony, it ended up being very intimate and loving, and thankfully not very long. If you can see my BIL has water on his jacket too.

ETA: That's me to the left of the camera, you could hear me near sobbing at some points lol.

and I totally forgot to share, as a part of the prearranged ceremony, the Pastor said

"You will feel no cold" (it was like 40 degrees and half of us were from Florida)

"You will feel no rain" (At this point we all just lost it"

There was a 60% chance of rain on our wedding day. It looked dreary all morning, but luckily our ceremony was at 2. We got the ceremony in and all of our outdoor photos. It started pouring around 4 and didn't stop. You never know, you could get lucky!

Don't panic just yet! We had a forecast for the same at the beginning of the week for my wedding in Johnstown, PA, and by the end of the week it had changed to sunshine and a breeze. It poured during the rehearsal, so I wasn't able to decorate for the ceremony till the morning of the wedding, but sure enough my day was sunny and clear. Apparently a town just 20 minutes away had some rain though.

Like PP's have said, invest in a great umbrella or maybe a few if you want your bridal party to have them as well, maybe grab an adorable pair of rain boots, and get ready to have fun with it regardless of the weather!

It is way too early to believe forecasts right now. Weather patterns could easily change by a day or two by then. Don't freak yet.

It rained on our wedding day. I was stalking the forecast for two weeks prior to the wedding and finally the Monday before I had to make a decision on our rain plan - can we fit ceremony, dinner, and dancing inside or do I need to rent a tent.

I ended up renting a tent and it was overcast all morning and was threatening rain during our pre-ceremony pictures. In the time post pictures when guests were arriving, it poured. The main walkway up to the ceremony spot got flooded (luckily there was an easy fix although we ended up walking on milk crates to get to the asile) and the downpour had me worried that the tent wasn't rain plan enough.

All we had to do was delay the ceremony 10-15 minutes and the skies cleared up. It rained for just long enough to have the good luck of rain on our wedding day - and to inconvenience our handicapped guests unfortunately. The clouds were lifting during our ceremony and we had a gorgeous dusky blue sky for our post ceremony pics as husband and wife. The remainder of the evening was perfect and because of the rain, humidity levels dropped significantly. The following weekend, historic floods destroyed many buildings and homes in my area and the entire downtown area (where the wedding was held) was shut off. Had the wedding been the following weekend, I'd have a different wedding story than I planned.

Moral of the story: even if it forecasts rain, it will still be a beautiful day. Take some cute rain pics, have a back up plan, and hope for the best. Its nerve racking, especially this close to your day, but weather is a fickle thing- you could end up with a perfect evening.

Not a Florida bride, but a Bay Area one. El Niño was supposed to hit October to the end of December and it just really ramped up in the last week. I'll be doing some anti-rain dances for a few rain free days next month. Granted if it's under 60 outside, we're still moving the reception inside, but at least we can get some outside pictures.

I live in south Florida (west palm beach actually) and It's been dreary outside for sure. Where do you live? However - even though its been calling for rain it hasn't really that bad where I live and only drizzles. Also - if you are from Florida you know how the weather can change in 5 minutes. IF it does rain for the ceremony - I'm sure it will stop and you will have no rain for pictures outside. You still have a week and I would just relax and not really try to think about it. I can't tell you how often the meteorologists have been wrong when they do a 10 day forecast down here.

Now you know they can't accurately predict weather this far in advance. They usually have trouble predicting it on the same day! You must have a back-up plan, but don't panic.

The day before my wedding it was POURING rain with 40mph winds. There was a hurricane off the coast. I mean, the house we were staying at was leaking from the roof the rain was so bad. The day of our wedding they predicted wind gusts and 60% chance of rain. We woke up that morning to almost clear skies. The clouds parted for our ceremony, but the wind was so bad we had to do our plan B for the ceremony. We only had a short rain moment later in the evening and had to move the first dance inside. After that, we enjoyed the rest of the night outside.

Moral of the store, you cannot predict the weather totally. As long as you have a plan B, you will still be married. Just take it with stride. Ask anyone on here, I was freaking out the whole week about the weather.

I'm getting married in CT, but live in South FL. 60% chance isn't that bad...especially how it rains on and off here. One of my friends got married recently in Key Largo on a day with a 90% chance of rain. She got lucky and the rain held off for her 30 minute ceremony on the beach. Don't worry just yet. Smiley smile

Thanks for all the reassuring responses! We do have a back up plan but it's not a good one!! The beach company will be there at 12 to reserve a pavilion if we need to. But we have 100 guests! I'm more worried about them! I live in the Sarasota area
