Rain predicted on wedding day...not much of a back up plan

Andrea, on October 7, 2019 at 8:52 PM Posted in Planning 1 12
I’m having an outdoor ceremony/reception on 10/19 at my dad’s house. Right now, the forecast is predicting a 40% chance of rain every single day of that week, including our wedding day. We chose October because it is one of the driest months of the year.

If it does, we are going to have to have everyone shoved under a tent at their table. We won’t be able to have our dance floor out and people will have to go into the rain to get their food/drinks, as the tent won’t fit tables and the buffet/bar.
We have a coordinator who can help us figure it out, but the idea of not having it the way I envisioned makes me sad. We are 12 days out, but I cannot help but be worried. We’ve spent so much time and money on this wedding and I will be devastated.
I’m having a really hard time enjoying these last couple of weeks. I’ve been so stress-free until this.

Is a second tent an option for the food?

Forecasts are rarely accurate that far out, so don’t lose all hope yet. Meanwhile is there any chance you can get a bigger tent that could hold all your tables, buffet, and dance floor? Maybe one with sides just in case? I know it’s an added expense but it would make for a more solid back up plan.

I wouldn't even pay attention until about 5 days out. Rain can be accurate up to 7 days out, but a lot can change in that amount of time.

Try to enjoy what you can!

Maybe getting a tent that would fit just the buffet and dance floor or two smaller ones next to each other and have them right up against the big one? I would definitely have a back up plan that makes you feel prepared and relieved instead of stressing (I know easier said then done) try and find a solution that makes you feel good! I would definitely sit down with your fiancé and coordinator and talk about how you could solve your fears if it rains. You still have time to think of something that will make you feel a little better if it does end up raining at least this isn’t the day before your wedding or even 4 or 5 days before your wedding and your caught off guard and unprepared. The positive side of it is you still have a little more time on your side to really think. I know that is hard but there is ALWAYS another way! Good luck !!

I'm having the same forecast with my ceremony this Saturday, but I hope it clears up for you. Dont worry about it just yet. I'm not sure what state you're in but if it's like mine, it may change in an instant.

I am having the same exact problem. We found some decent tents that we were talking about buying from Amazon, and I called every. Single. Church in St cloud today and all of the VFW/American legions in town trying to figure it out. Dealt with lots of arguing from our parent's, but I think we finally have it figured out. Originally the forecast said 50's and sunny, now they say 70% chance rain, 50% snow and a high of 35 degrees 😥. Hope you can get it figured out, best of luck

Also if it helps at all, the tents we got have removable sides so we are putting two of them together and then are opening the garage door and having the tents up against the garage door. We will have our desserts inside and the main course in the garage along with the tables and chairs. When we are done eating we will be putting half of the tables and chairs away to make a dance floor on the driveway (still under the tents)

Agree with pp suggestions- could you get another smaller tent for the dance floor and such?

I would get a few more tents of the same size/style tent you already have and put them up against each other. Above it where the divisions are, you can tape large bags so that that water don't come down in between.

Agree with the others, additional tent(s) are the way to go!

This is why outdoor weddings should ALWAYS have a backup plan.
