Raise your hand if you wish Hobby Lobby had a registry option.

I was heartbroken when I found out that they don't. My FH thinks I'm crazy, but please tell me there are some ladies out there that understand!?!?!

Basically, Hobby Lobby doesn't provide certain forms of birth control under their insurance for their employees, based on their Christian beliefs.

ETA: Or something like that. It was a giant controversy last year and in the end the Supreme Court ruled in their favor, if I remember correctly.

I like Hobby Lobby because if I can't find something at Michaels I can go there. I usually end up buying on sale greenery for shows since I'm a costumer lol

They lobbied for a law that makes it optional for a employer to offer birth control under their insurance. So it's not only them, but they made it possible for any other company to not offer birth control and claim 'Christian beliefs'. I would never set a foot in them.

ETA: Edited for using a wrong word

The thing that burns me the most is that they get corporate protections, so they should have to play the corporate ball game. How does a corporation hold a firmly held religious belief? I would understand it slightly more coming from a company like Chik-fil-a. They actually put their beliefs where there policies are concerned. As many times as I have wanted Chik-fil-a on a Sunday I know they are closed because of their Christian Beliefs.

Not me. They used to offer their employees birth control, then suddenly discovered a religious belief against it, and took the matter to the Supreme Court. The idea that a corporation's religious belief should trump the individual religious beliefs of all its employees galls me. And of course, their religious beliefs didn't stop them, for example, from allowing Viagra for adulterers. It's only women who seem to be the target of their religion.

Did you know you can add items from other websites to your Amazon Registry? We added items from World Market and a few other places onto our Amazon Wedding Registry. It just takes the guest to the site where the item is located instead.

Oh wow. I was just sad cause I like their decorations. Lol

It's not cause I want people to buy me craft supplies for my wedding or cause I support their political junk or whatever. Haha

I like their decor too. I still shop there, I just wouldn't make a registry there because people buying off the registry might not want to buy from there.

Joann's is my go-to craft store. I also love Michael's. Hobby Lobby will never get a penny from me. However, I am a fan of the Amazon universal registry. I used it for a few Target items we wanted and avoided Target's problematic registry system.

What do they consider 'traditional birth control"?

Oral contraceptives, the patch, the shot, IUDs et al. Everything except emergency contraception like Plan B and similar products.

Zoe, they especially exclude IUDs too, since in their mind they are like abortions too, I read the reasoning, but it's going over my head.

ETA: Here's an article: http://www.newrepublic.com/article/118547/facts-about-birth-control-and-hobby-lobby-ob-gyn They exclude two forms of IUDs. The problem is that they set the precedence for other companies that can now exclude whatever they would like as well.

They didn't lobby for a law so much as they were seeking exemption from an HHS policy, as the ACA gave discretion to the director of HHS to set specific rules about what had to be included. And yeah, they won at the Supreme Court level because the Court ruled that a business owner's right to practice their religion doesn't stop when they go to work. They're not even a publicly traded company - they're owned by a family. Other companies like Eden Foods also took issue with the rule for health reasons, as they're an organic food company that didn't want to provide insurance for elective medications that they believe to be potentially harmful.

It was a huge deal here in Oklahoma because Hobby Lobby is based here. The rule was so tight on who could qualify as a religious exemption that even nuns couldn't qualify.

@CBtoCL. That's right. Thank you for the clarification; it's been a while. Also totally ridiculous as there's no scientific basis to indicate these drugs and devices cause abortions -- just the opposite. I agree that it's a dangerous precedent to set side science over religion, particularly in business. I won't ever spend my money there.

Lol last year my sister gave me a hobby lobby gift card. Before the gc I never shopped there before and now that my gc is used I won't shop there. To me the selection sucks and is expensive. My go to shops are joann fabrics and michaels, in that order. I also did not like what they did for birth control. This then pushes their beliefs onto their employees, which is not fair seeing as its not a religious based entity. To me it should only be allowed to business that religion is their main focus. Ex a Christian book store or Christian school.
