Random Aisle Runner Question!

Bright Eyes, on February 23, 2010 at 1:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

So I know that the "point" of the aisle runner was originally to protect the bride's dress from the mud and dirt of the guests shoes. Therefore, it was rolled out just before the bride walked out. I'm doing my own aisle runner, and I'm handpainting it with our monogram. From what I've been reading/looking at, the aisle runner has a tendency to wrinkle, come up, etc. So I found aisle runner tape. However, I don't want someone walking down right before me taping it down, you know? So would it be weird if I just put it down before anyone showed up? Would it get dirty? What are you guys doing?

I am putting it down before hand. I don't think it would look good wrinkled or look good having someone go ahead of me taping it down.

I'm not having one but I've seen them used before. I don't think you'll have a big problem with it even if you don't use the tape. It'll be just you or you and the bridal party walking on it. I think the tape is pointless. No one is going to be looking at the runner they are going to be looking at you and your dress

My church does not allow us to use one because they do not want tape or nails on the carpet. But if you are going to use one, I would say put it down before the guests come. Since you are getting married in June, I doubt your guests will have a lot of mud on their shoes. If for some reason it rains that day, hopefully your guests will wipe their feet off before the enter the church.

I am on the fence about it. I'm customizing mine too and seriously considering rolling it out ahead of time. Where did you guys find the tape?

I am completely closing off the center aisle so our guests walking on the runner should not be an issue. But then I just remembered I told my niece she would roll out the runner. ugh!

Ladylee, I've been thinking of doing the same thing!! The church that I'm a member of is somewhat semi-circular and has a few side aisles. You can still get to all the seats, you just don't take the center aisle, you know? That sounds like a great idea to me, though!!

And I'm getting the tape at Save-On-Crafts.com. More specifically:

    http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=BEVFABRICCRAFTS&vwcatalog=BEVFABRICCRAFTS&query=aisle runner&x=0&y=0

    Just scroll down a bit.

Hi, Bright Eyes! I thought I'd chime in here -- it would NOT be weird at all to lay the aisle runner in advance of the ceremony. In fact, especially with a monogrammed aisle runner, I haven't had a single bride that wasn't planning on laying it out in advance.

Like Ladylee suggested, they ask the ushers to seat guests through the side or outer aisles and may choose to close off the center aisle with tulle or something like that. That way, they can view it while they're taking their seats, it doesn't get stepped on prior to the ceremony, and it doesn't have to be rolled out and taped down during the ceremony.

I HIGHLY suggest taping down both ends of the aisle runner -- the tape that you linked to is great. Also, white/ivory duct tape and clear packing tape works well.

Yes I am putting mine down before the guests come and having them enter the seats from outside aisle. No walking down the center aisle!

I was mulling over the idea of an isle runner since our ceremony will be in the grass but I just don't wanna deal with it.I've heard from other brides on here that their dresses didn't get dirty from walking down the isle without a runner so I think I am opting for flower petals instead.Just an idea!

Since ours is an outside ceremony in a pavillion on the beach, we are using one. We will be putting it down before the ceremony and the way it's set up nobody will be walking down it but the bridal party anyway.

Agree with the PPs. You need to use something like a pretty ribbon to tie off the center isle. When the BP enters, an usher will remove it.

    .

Traditionally, no guests are seated by walking down the center isle, as it is bad luck. Same goes for the groom, he should never walk down the isle before leaving with the bride.

Ribbonning off the center aisle is customary when rolling out the runner in advance, but you have to have enough room on the side aisles to do this.

If it's only going to be used for when you walk down and then you and your DH walk up, I wouldn't worry about it getting all messed up if you spread it out right before you walk down. I would think it would more liekly get all bunched and moved being put down before hand.

I think I'm just going to rope off the center aisle. Yay for choosing a semi-circular church!!! Lol! I was planning on using some tulle/ribbon/something to decorate the pews as it is, so I'll just get extra and rope it off Smiley smile Thanks ladies!!!
