Random: palm tree in a box ?

PBiazinha, on November 28, 2017 at 9:40 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 20

FH is REALLY wanting to have small palm trees in a box as a favor for our destination wedding next year in the Keys. He said he's seeing it before in Fort Myers and Miami airports, people buy them as a souvenir and they are easy to carry on airplanes. Has anyone seen it before? Have any idea where I can find it? I'm researching and I don't seem to be able to find any info on that. Help! Thanks!

Not going to lie, I wouldn't want a palm tree as a favor no matter where you're getting married. I'm not sure where the majority of your guests are coming from but how many people would realistically take one of these home? If you live in the north I highly doubt it would be easy to take care of. I live in Florida and wouldn't even take one home, I just wouldn't know what to do with it. Super super cute idea and matches the location perfectly but as a favor idk if I'd be into that. If he's that hell bent on it maybe you can find a way to contact and airport store and ask where they get theirs? Or maybe think of another favor that's more practical and doesn't require care and a green thumb?

Sorry, but no thanks. I have a black thumb, when it comes to house plants.

It sounds cute, but I really think they will wind up in trash cans

I think it's cute but most probably won't take it- How about a cookie shaped like a palm tree? Ha

Oh that's so cute! I love palm trees!! It looks hard to transport though so I think they would get left if people needed to go on a plane. Smiley sad I would definitely take one though Smiley smile

It's, undeniably, a cute idea but many people are going to leave that behind. When I'm traveling, especially via plane, I'm not worrying about a plant. I'm worrying about boarding and getting a heavy pour on that wine...

Love the idea ... but the practicality of it is what would worry me ...

This could be cute but I would NEVER take a plant as a favor if I had to fly home. No way am I trying to carry-on a potted plant

That’s the thing, his family (which are 80% of the guests) would mostl likely take them (we are plant people I guess lol). I will try to keep looking, the ones he is talking about are meant to be transported and are small, maybe I’ll have the cookie idea as well lol I just feel bad, he doesn’t ask much of his ideas to be incorporated and when he does I try to make it happen. I would gladly bring all left overs home anyway haha

thank you all! I shall continue looking. @DoggoMom yes! Something like that but it comes in a box meant to be transported. They are usually sold in airports.

This idea is so cute! $4 a pop though, that's awfully steep...unless you're doing one per family I guess

I would love (and probably kill) this. However, there's no way I would be able to take it on a plane, train, or bus.

Use it as a centerpiece or table scatter then tell people who want to to take them?

I wouldn't take these, honestly. Palm trees take a lot of maintenance if you're actually going to let it grow.

I live in Florida and would not want one. I personally have a black thumb versus green and the poor thing would be dead within a month. Would prefer and edible favor. Maybe palm tree cookies or something of that nature.

I think those are adorable and would totally take one. Could you use those as a centerpiece? Then those that like them can take them at the end of the night and you won't have a ton left.

Also I know on here a lot of people say they wouldn't take non edible favors but I went against popular opinion and did shot glasses anyways. I only had one not taken and it was my friend who asked for it later (her table got cleared at the end of the night and she lost it). I'm not sure if it is because some people took extras or everyone took their one but I was pleasantly surprised.

I have one a friend of mine, bought at Florida airport 10 years ago. I live in Buffalo NY. My little palm tree is about 4 feet now.. it is amazing. I will need to repot it soon in a bigger pot
