Rant: Caterer All Of a Sudden Closed Down

Jennifer, on September 18, 2022 at 6:27 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 4
This is a rant and seeking for advice. We are having an “I Do BBQ” Welcome Party the day before the wedding for all our guests and it’s basically also our Rehearsal Dinner. The place that was supposed to make the BBQ for us all of a sudden since their Pit Master left and found a different opportunity out of state. There’s only one other BBQ place in our small town so I’ll be asking if they can do it first thing on Monday even though I don’t like their BBQ as much. If they can’t do it, what should I do? There isn’t a lot of outside catering options. Most are attached to a venue but won’t cater outside of their venue. This is just the way it is where we live so I’m not sure what I would do. The bright side is we are good friends with our venue. We told them the situation and we can cancel without consequence, but should I cancel it and just have a small Rehearsal Dinner for the Wedding Party even though my guests have already RSVPed and planned to come that extra day early for the BBQ?

If you can't do bbq, could you do a different theme for example a Mexican fiesta? I think that sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I wouldn't completely cancel your plans if you have out of town guests as they have likely already made travel and hotel plans.

Oh that actually sounds like a fun idea, too! There are 2 Mexican restaurants here so I can ask them if they’ll cook a bunch of food and basically do the same thing if the one other BBQ joint doesn’t pan out. Haha everything I have already bought is so BBQ themed already but that’s okay. It’s better than canceling.

Are there restaurants in a nearby city that will cater? Otherwise asking the Mexican restaurant to cater is an appropriate alternative , and may appeal to more people.

The nearest city to us is about an hour away so there’s always a huge surcharge for catering from there that’s why I’m trying to keep it close and local.
