Rant: Is anyone else sick of the phrase "Marry my best friend?"

I swear I have been seeing this DAILY on facebook. It's so overused and it's gotten to the point that I cringe a little when I see it haha "I can't wait to marry my best friend!" "X days until I marry my best friend!" "Today I marry my best friend!" "1 year ago I married my best friend!" I get the...

"I can't wait to marry my best friend!"

"X days until I marry my best friend!"

"Today I marry my best friend!"

"1 year ago I married my best friend!"

I get the sentiment. My husband is my best friend as well, but ugh, lets get a little more creative people instead of saying the same thing over and over again

Huh, I never really noticed how overused it was until you posted this and then I thought about recent fb posts from friends and I'm pretty sure EVERY ONE OF THEM used the "best friend" phrase.

I don't think I've ever used this, I always say "The sexiest man alive" or "the love of my life" and yes, I have referred to him as my soul mate.

I haven't used that a lot..but nope, not sick of it :-D Mainly since I haven't seen it used super much, and I feel a good marriage does necessitate friendship..you gotta like each other for the long haul lol. I do feel I have two best friends, my DH and my twin.

Haha I just noticed on FB this morning two women have used Love of My Life, lots of anniversaries coming up over the next two months since fall weddings are very popular in my hometown.

Agreed! Not like FH isn't my best friend, but I'm so tired of that phrase I refuse to say it!

I was thinking of using "Today, I am marrying the ultimate booty call"

I dont think that they are saying your husband or soon to be was your best friend first. It became your best friend just like any other realtionship over time. Its a page to uplife marriage, you can delete the page, if you didnt subscribe to it, its your friends that may have liked the page and it comes through the new feeds anyway. To no longer see the post, you can do this all through your settings onFB.

Ummmm Tamashika, it's not a "page" on facebook. My original post was in reference to many facebook friends posting statuses that include this phrase about their wedding.

I don't know if it's really the phrase itself, or just that it's usually used by an annoyingly excited wedding's all she can talk about friend every day. Every single day.

Uhura, I almost died on the train at your post! Too funny!

I like PIC, too. We've definitely gotten into some trouble together Smiley winking It also makes me think of "Role Models," which we love and quote all the time.

I know someone who always refers to her SO as her "co-pilot"... I like that.

I thought I was just a cynical old tart. TY! I think by calling your DH/FH/SO your best friend, you are bringing them to the level of the gal pal who has held your hair when you puked from drinking too much. Yes, DH has done that a few times. However, a BF is the one person you can actually bitch about your DH/FH to and they never judge, just listen.

HAHA! I had these words (or something like them on my program) I married my best friend, but in my defense, it's completely true so I'm glad I used them.

At the end of the day, I guess it really depends on your definition of a "best friend", not what society says, or the movies say, but your OWN true definition of it.

LadyHopkins, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I am honestly marrying my best friend. FH is my absolute best friend. I have friends, gal pals, etc...but the person who will always be there for me no matter what, is FH. We were friends first before the relationship started...and yes, you know what...our relationship is a bit platonic, and we're ok with that. What happens when you get older, something goes wrong, you and he aren't "sexy" anymore, can't have sex, etc...if you don't have a great friendship, you are left with nothing. We "enjoy" each other (LOL) and we want to have kids, but we truly are best friends first.

Just wanted to clear that up for me, but I do agree the phrase itself is becoming very overused, which is a shame Smiley sad

OH and I cannot STAND the term "baby bump". UGH! Makes me cringe!!!

    Nope, not sick of it.

Rather see that on FB than football/iPhone updates or drama.

I also like the term 'baby bump.'
