Rant - Venue won’t respond

Lauren, on February 2, 2022 at 6:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
I’m so frustrated. We went and saw a beautiful venue last weekend and immediately fell in love. The event coordinator said to email her what we would want as far as food upgrades etc and we did immediately and still can’t get in touch with her to get said quote or make a deposit. Especially bc the fate is for this summer. Every other venue we have seen has quoted us on the spot so I don’t know if this is normal to wait a while to hear back. But it makes me wonder if this is how hard it would be to work with the venue for the rest of the process? Just ugh

Many wedding vendors and restaurants are closed Mondays, sometimes Tuesdays since they work all weekend. Maybe give it another day before giving up. To go too much longer without a reply is not a good sign for future working with them. Is there a different contact than the person you spoke with that you can call?

Thank you. I’m going to give it another day or so. Unfortunately she is the only contact person they have at the moment for events.

Something you need to be prepared for not just with this venue but all vendors is that it is not entirely uncommon to be waiting days if not weeks before you receive a response to your correspondence.

Whether it be because it is a busy time of year, the vendor has set times for answering correspondence or so forth, there are many different reasons why vendors may not respond within hours (or a day) of receiving an email, so just give it time and follow up after a reasonable period if you haven't received a response.

    Good luck!

The hospitality industry is rough and the days/hours are worse. I’d say if by Thursday/Friday you haven’t heard back, call the venue and speak with a GM. I wouldn’t settle for mediocre service, even when it pertains to correspondences. Sets the tone for what could be ahead.

Do keep in mind that this is still the time of year when people can get sick, or an emergency may have arisen.

I definitely agree with the others: If you can, be mindful of time frames BUT do not settle for mediocre service ESPECIALLY communications.

Do double and triple check spelling of addresses and see if phone numbers are up to date and correct.

When my fiancé and I were ready to book (but we are planning over a year in advance) and didn't hear back for two weeks, I left one voice mail for each phone number provided, and then I sent an email with the heading, " (Last Name + (Last Name) Ready to Book for (our date)".

Ready to book means that the $ is ready for them, and is minimal effort on their part.

I explained what I did, and that I couldn't get a hold of them, and then stopped planning for a bit.

About a week and change after this, I got an email back from the coordinator who had a medical procedure done. She was very grateful to have our business, and was flexible when it came to answering follow-up questions so we could secure a date.

Sometimes a little patience goes a long way.
