Rapid covid testing for weddings??

Dj Tanner, on January 13, 2021 at 1:33 PM

Just wondering if any other brides have reached out to their local officials or venues to ask if they’d allow you to purchase rapid testing for all of your guests? I had reached out and questioned and the most I’ve heard was that they were working on this but I have yet to hear anything else.

Also just because certain businesses or states don’t have strict mandates, doesn’t mean they’re safe.

Hi I am curious if you could share more about what other providers you have found in your search. I’m thinking for inquiring about rapid testing and paying for it for my guests too (in conjunction with usual precautions such as masks and temperature checks). We had a company that was spearheading these tests locally here, but news went silent. Also heard about some offered through Costco. Just kinda wondering and researching what options we have currently out there!

Lol whoa! My intent wasn’t to trigger you. It was simply just yo get your insight. Yes, my town’s community center is offering indoor Zumba classes right now, and if you think testing is giving a false sense of security then I’m assuming your wedding has been canceled altogether correct?

I’m not sure what you’re trying to get out really. I’m just trying to follow the rules of what my state thinks is best. Not what you think is best.

Hey! Thanks for reaching out and asking a legitimate question pertaining to my post. So from the information my fiancé and I have gathered thus far Abbott testing offers rapid tests. However currently it is a matter of working with your state/local legislators/and health department to make this possible. Abbott Has been one of the leading testers so far in our country and has contracts with various different states as well as Cvs to provide rapid tests. Initially the rapid tests were pretty in accurate to say the least, but their new rapid tests have proven to be 90% accurate. First step would be reaching out to your local health department and next to your local state rep. Hope this helps

Also, you haven’t really answered my question as far as why do you think they give a false sense of security. How do you think it gives a false sense of security? It’s trusted by federal and state government... i’m surprise you’re even on a wedding app if you’re so against people having weddings right now.

Personally I don't trust the tests because they are not always accurate and they are overstepping. A negative result does not mean anything because people can contract the virus at any time and spread it to others as many of the superspreader weddings have.

So I take it you haven’t reached out to your local officials about inquiring for rapid testing.. Thanks for your response

Is your wedding venue charging you for postponing?

It's not an issue since we decided to wait it out till the virus is under more control with vaccines. They said even if we did have them booked now and postponed till later (which we would not do in favor of eloping with announcements to everyone afterward but we want to celebrate with friends hence waiting), they would not charge extra because they are not a traditional wedding venue.

I have a quick question on this. How do you plan on implementing it? Would you ship out the tests to your guests before they come? Or are you planning on having them take it at the door? I ask because my understanding of these tests (even the PCR ones) are that they are only a "snapshot" in time. So if you have your guests take the test before they travel to your venue then it is possible they pick it up between the time of the test and the event. But even rapid tests take time to process, so there are a lot of reasons why it also may not give the most accurate result in the moment (user error, too early to detect, etc.). I feel like it may be a very costly catch-22 situation.

I'll be interested to hear if anyone is able to pull this off. I don't think testing is a bad idea at all, I am just not sure if the financial costs are worth it if the guarantee is not there.

Oh that’s nice. Yeah unfortunately I signed my contract at an actual wedding venue before this whole Covid outbreak happened so I’m sort of locked in at this point basically it would cost me less to buy tests for everyone versus having to push my wedding date out with my venue and all of my vendors

So how it was explained to us was that the rapid tests take 15 minutes to process. They would be administered to our guests at their cars 15 minutes prior to the ceremony by a licensed practitioner. It’s basically the same as if they were to get a rapid test at any facility only they would be immediately attending the ceremony on site after they get a negative result. Keep in mind, they would still be required to remain 6 to 12 feet apart and masks will be worn just like they would be in restaurants unless they are eating. It is outside by the ocean so there would be dancing but just like the allowed Zumba classes as well as Dave & Buster’s, at that point they would be allowed to dance outside 6 to 12 feet apart with masks on. So far that is the proposal we are trying to work on with our state.

I've been told some couples are hiring a Covid-19 officer that do rapid testing. I'm trying to do research on that for my wedding.

That’s awesome, if you hear anything further about it I’m interested to hear on how that goes. They’ve advised something similar to us which would be a nurse practitioner who’d administer. Thanks for reaching out and hope you get more answers soon bride ♥️

In my state currently guests would be required to sit for the full 6 hours unless to go to the bathroom. Its also outside by the ocean. So far I have only gotten positive responses from my guests about taking rapid test prior to entry. They would much rather take a test and be able to stand/social distanced dancing rather than not take a test and sit all night.

That’s awesome! Fingers crossed! it all seems like there is hope. This is the latest from our state in the link below. My fiancé and I have been in contact with one of our state officials and they’re hoping to build on this further as more people get vaccinated etc. The mock wedding was a success so I’m just praying that everything else works out. https://whatsupnewp.com/2021/01/mock-wedding-to-be-held-at-oceancliff-will-be-used-as-a-training-video-to-help-the-wedding-and-event-industry-naviage-covid-19-guidelines/
