Rash under my engagement ring!

Leighanne, on May 15, 2017 at 2:05 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 18

I'm just recently engaged so i haven't even had the ring for a month and i developed a blister/rash under my ring. I'm not sure if I'm allergic to any metals but i am allergic to perfumes. Any remedies to cure this quickly? Is there a skin protectant i can use? I feel terrible taking my ring off.

Clear nail polish for now if you can tolerate it or liquid bandaid

Nail polish on my skin or the ring? I have heard that trick before of using nail polish on jewelry.

Talk to a nurse or dermatologist. I suggest against taking advice from people online-- it could make it WORSE!

I would stop wearing the ring until you find out what is causing it. Head to the doctor, like a dermatologist, for a diagnosis and figure out how to treat it. Then you'll be able to know what to do about the ring. It could be a rash from a metal allergy, it could be from water and soap stuck under the ring after you wash your hands. It could be something else entirely. The only way to be certain is to have it checked out by a doctor. But definitely stop wearing the ring until you know because that will likely keep irritating it!

I know better, I'm in the medical field and it does make it worse sometimes. Will need to make a phone call in the morning.

Sounds like a possible allergy to the metal. I would see a doctor to be sure. I'm sorry that your dealing with this, but its better to get it addressed before it gets worse. Good luck.

I had this problem with literally every other ring that I've ever worn! I have issues with sensitivity with earrings and necklaces too, but never like the blistery itchy rash I get under my rings! I was terrified that it would happen with my engagement ringSmiley sad I'm a hairstylist and use a lot of product (think about all of the shampoos conditioners and sprays we use!!) and I read in an online hairstylist forum that products get stuck under your ring (even normal soap!) and can irritate your skin. I clean my ring at least once a week, take it off to apply leave in conditioner, and dry my finger really well when I wash my hands. I've been wearing it since November and haven't had any issues doing all of these things (knock on wood!!)

That does sound like an allergy, do you know what the ring is made out of?

I would definitely see a dermatologist - I had this happen with a white gold class ring (a million years ago) and tried the clear nail polish trick on the inside of the ring, but ended up having to have it resized to a quarter size larger. Once it wasn't fitting so tightly, no problems! Good luck!

Really sounds like a metal allergy! Try taking your ring off any time you wash your hands or handle something that could get in between the ring and your finger [like spices or sauces] just in case in the meantime - call a Dr and get an appt asap but while you wait if you do that and the rash doesn't lessen it's probably the ring itself.

If it turns out to be the ring, some jewelers offer clear coating over the bands for people who have allergies to the metal they have so I would definitely look into that, or see if your FI can exchange the ring for the same/similar thing in a band you won't be allergic to since it is fairly new. Have him explain the allergy and that you all didn't know about it and the jeweler should be pretty helpful.

Hopefully a Dr can see you really soon to confirm - no one but a Dr will be able to tell you if it truly is the metal causing the reaction though.

This happened to my friend and over the course of a year it would get better and then worse again. Finally they decided to have the setting changed from white gold to platinum.

It sounds allergic to me, sometimes though if there is moisture between the ring and skin it could cause irritation. If the ring is gold though and you have gold earrings that don't give your ears issues it could be a different dermatitis.

It sounds like an allergy, talk to your doctor & don't wear your ring for the time. Your FH will understand!

It's white gold. And i think it's probably more of a moisture thing because the first 2 weeks i was taking it off to sleep, shower and do dishes. And i thought in order to get used to having it on i should keep it on at all times. Well i work at a vet office and i was cleaning surgical equipment last week when i first noticed it bothering me... i also can wear other gold jewelry without a problem. I hope this rash goes away soon, my engagement party is this Sunday!!

Could be an allergy to the nickel in the ring. Happened to me once the rhodium plating started to wear off. When I got my ring "dipped" again in the platinum, the rash went away. Platinum has no nickel in it so it stopped my reactions.
