Readings Related to the Sea, Nautical, Ocean, Boats etc?

Cathy, on September 9, 2019 at 5:31 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 7

I am looking for readings related to the subjects listed above. I found one really beautiful poem that I like, (written by some blogger back in 2012, but it totally fits). The only ones I keep getting are Lindberg's "On a Beach" (which doesn't strike me) and the one about "Beach Chairs" (not appropriate).

Suggestions appreciated.

Ooh my husband and I used this reading for our ceremony, it’s called Time Travelers by Terah Cox. We also wanted a nautical themed reading and this one fit the bill

    Time Travelers By: Terah Cox

May you take on the world together with all your hopes and dreams

May you be each other’s anchor in smooth or rocky seas

May you bend to the world’s winds and brave stalls and storms

May you find common ground in all its changing forms

May you cross stubborn boundaries and turn many a stone

May you find haven for your souls

May you have heart and home

And if some days are gray and some nights are long and cold

May you be each other’s sun and moon as your destinies unfold

And should you lose sight of each other and start to drift apart

May you circle back by following the compass of your heart.

We will be using Jimmy Buffett lyrics. We’re both big fans (especially me) and he has so many awesome songs (aside from Margaritaville, which is not nearly his best work) that you could look through and possibly find what you’re searching for.

There's an E.E. Cummings poem that was featured in that movie Charlie St. Cloud that I've always liked. It's called Dive for Dreams. That might be pretty.

    Dive For Dreams

    By E.E. Cummings

    dive for dreams
or a slogan may topple you
    (trees are their roots
    and wind is wind)

    trust your heart
    if the seas catch fire
    (and live by love
    though the stars walk backward)

    honour the past
    but welcome the future
    (and dance your death
    away at this wedding)

    never mind a world
    with its villains or heroes
    (for god likes girls
    and tomorrow and the earth)

    Hey there Cathy Smiley smile

"The Voyage" is a very famous Irish classic song by Johnny Duhan. The lyrics couldbe read as a poem for your wedding. At what part of the ceremony would you like this read out?

I am a sailor, you're my first mate

We signed on together, we coupled our fate

Hauled up our anchor, determined not to fail

For the hearts treasure, together we set sail

With no maps to guide us we steered our own course

Rode out the storms when the winds were gale force

Sat out the doldrums in patience and hope

Working together we learned how to cope

Life is an ocean and love is a boat

In troubled waters that keeps us afloat

When we started the voyage, there was just me and you

Now gathered round us, we have our own crew

    Together we're in this relationship

We built it with care to last the whole trip

Our true destination's not marked on any charts

We're navigating to the shores of the heart

If you love the lyrics, but don't want to use it as a reading, check out the Christy Moore cover. The song could really work somewhere else in your wedding Smiley smile

I like this one. We are planning to read it at the ceremony, but I may adapt part of it as my vows.
