Real flowers or fake for cake?

bridetobe123, on April 3, 2015 at 5:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I always think real flowers look so much better, but does anyone know what the cost difference would be? I wouldn't want to spend too much just for them to be real flowers.. they would wrap around it going toward the top

I don't know about the price but if you go with real flowers make sure you get edible ones, some are actually toxic.

According to our baker, in order to put real flowers on your cake, they MUST be organically grown. So before you get your heart set on real flowers, speak with your baker and ask if he/she uses certified organic flowers.

I'd go with fake, just to be safe! There are a lot of very realistic looking silk flowers!

What about sugar flowers? that is what i am using - we actually ordered them already and everything through wholesalesugarflowers.com... they look incredible and are 100% edible. And they are crystallized sugar which adds a whole new level to our cake. Granted - it was about $50 for them... but you have to make sure that you have certified organic flowers if you use real ones (we were going to) and it was $80 for those because they have to come in special packaging, etc.. so it worked out to use sugar flowers.

We are using real flowers on mine. A mixer of succulents and blush flowers. It's costing $50 for the flowers and for my florist to decorate the cake. She grows her own flowers and I'd trust she wouldn't put anything dangerous on there!

We're using silk. They do look quite life like.

Our baker gave us the option of real flowers or sugar flowers. The real flowers were about $50 less expensive so we're doing real.

Yes, make sure fresh flowers are edible and organic! otherwise, sugar flowers from the baker are lovely!

It really depends on the cake designer. I think real ones will be worth the extra $20-$50, more than that I would go with the fake ones.

My wedding cake designer told me to bring her real flowers like buy off the street a dozen roses and she would put it on my cake. Maybe ask your cake designer if this is an option you really don't have to spend much.
