Real vs fake candles

andrea, on August 21, 2017 at 10:36 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

So my centerpieces are lanterns. I put the correct size candle for what it says max 3 by 4 and it seems the lantern gets hot at the top to the touch, I even tried a smaller candle and it still gets pretty warm. Has anyone experienced this with their lanterns. My venue allows real flames so that's not an issue and the lanterns are meant for real flames just don't want anyone to touch it and get burned. Should I keep the real flame or use fake?

I would try the LED candles then. Better to be safe than sorry.

You don't think the LED would look bad?

I would definitely use a fake candle personally. My father was in a bad accident involving fire a few years ago (He is fine now) and I have a bad fear of fire. Better safe than sorry.

Also the LED/Battery operated ones can look very real. We use them onstage a lot ad people barely notice sometimes.

No! Honestly most LED's you can't even tell the difference.

But it's ultimately your decision! If you want to use the real candles you just have to hope people are adults and have learned that they don't need to touch everything like little children! lol

If they are for centrepieces I would use LED candles, that was what we did. When I was testing them I realised that they got far to hot with real candles and if they were left on all day someone might accidentally burn themselves. In particular some of the children who were there. Also I left one lighting on my mothers wooden coffee table when I was testing it. The table started to burn with the heat after a while. So thought fake candle would be safer!

Get LEDs to be safe! Hobby lobby has them 50% off like every other week, and they look almost identical to real ones, sans flame.

TBH I hate LED candles because I love real candles so much. I'm actually having candles at my reception on every single table and I tried them with the real and the LED and the LED just doesn't look too good to me. Candles are supposed to give that romantic look and I just don't see that with the LED. .... are you having kids at your wedding? Do you think their parents will distracted enough that they'll end up getting burned? .. I'm having kids at my wedding but I'm relying on the parents to make sure they take care of they're kids and not let them play around with all the candles everywhere.

We're doing LED. You can't tell the difference unless you're close up. The color of the 'flame' makes a difference, try to get a natural looking yellow-orange

I did LED for a lot of these same reasons....I will suggest though--get LED candles that have a warm/yellow look, not bright white. A lot of them will say "real look" flames or something similar. Mine looked very real--in person and in pics. They were definitely not the cheapest LED candles I found, but worth it to me for safety, peace of mind and re-usable (my mom and I ended up splitting the lanterns and candles after the wedding to use in holiday décor)

We had lanterns as our centerpieces as well & used LED pillar candles for all of them & they worked & looked great! They obviously also lasted all night without having to be changed out, which was a plus.

I'm using battery operated candles and white LED fairy lights in my lanterns.

My florist said I cannot use real in lanterns. Might want to check with your venue also. A flame sounds like a liability.

Mine are lanterns too and I got ones with LED candles attached on them. Hassle free and no worries with dealing with fire hazards and comes with a 5 hr timer. If you could return your lanterns, I highly recommend getting one with attached candle. Mine are similar to like this.

LED or luminara if that's in your budget.
