Realistic floral budget

Melissa, on May 15, 2021 at 11:52 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 16
I need some ideas on a budget for floral and any ideas from ladies who did their weddings with mostly greenery or green/white.
We are having a very small wedding. 20-25 people and I’m looking to have greenery in the front two corners of the patio cover below and a little trailing down each side and across the top; a garland across a 20 foot table; plus bouquet and some greenery trailing down the aisle chairs. Honestly not that much or so I thought.
I want mainly all greenery like smilax and Italian ruscus and a very very few pops of white flowers. I have no idea what’s a reasonable price because I’ve been quoted $900-1000 overall by some and $4000 from others. Some florists have told me “greenery is cheaper” and some have told me “it’s the most expensive”. I’m getting so discouraged by the crazy difference in prices. Any help would be appreciated ! That is something only you and fiancé can answer. For 25guests I would keep it on the lower end of the price spectrum but don’t get a swindler either. Instagram is a great place to find a florist. Tell them what your vision and budget are. If you want to DIY, you can go with fiftyflowers.com inexpensively.

I’m mainly just trying to see what others spent or what is a reasonable price for a greenery wedding. Our budget is flexible but quotes have been vastly different from florist to florist.

Prices vary DRAMATICALLY because this is an international forum so no two people will be paying the same prices.

Make an itemized list of everything you want. And compare. Make sure you are being quoted for the exact same things at each place. One florist might charge extra for something that the rest are not considering in the quotes.

We’re just doing greenery, no flowers and it’s $700 for just my bouquet (of greenery), a few boutonnières & corsages, some simple table runners, and bunches for the alter. I think your estimates are probably accurate and florists are going to vary.

We are doing my bridal bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, 5 boutonnières, 2 corsages, a bamboo arch rental, & 2 big bouquets for the arch. It came to $1200 total (and this is for the Outer Banks, NC). I decided because event design is so much money, the rest we are decorating ourselves like table center pieces, signs, etc. We also only have 20 guests so I totally understand how you are feeling!

I’m not having greenery but I can give you a breakdown of my floral cost I just got from my florist by item. I’m in Chicago Suburbs, Illinois and depending on where you are it will be different.

    My bouquet: $200
    Bridesmaid bouquet: $85 each

    Boutonnières: $15 each

    Wrist Corsages: $36 each

    Large Wedding Arch Spray: $395

    Sweetheart Table Flowers: $210

    Reception centerpiece flowers: $42 each
My total is around 1,800 with that. I’m only having one bridesmaid. 5 boutonnières, 3 wrist corsages and 10 centerpieces
It adds up, but it depends on what you want, some places have minimums you need to spend too (my florist does but since COVID and the venue is down the street from them I got lucky I didn’t have to meet the $3,500 minimum.)

The florists in Denver were quoting us $6k+ and most had a $2k minimum but it was really important to my fiancé to have real flowers and greenery (since I was considering silk flower rentals from Something Borrowed Blooms or Lings). I looked at several DIY sites (Fifty Flowers, Bouqs, Kukka, Flower Moxie) and Flower Moxie seemed the best to be honest (both in quality and price), and you can even pay $60 to have a virtual consult with them and they will help turn your Pinterest board photos into actual recommendations for # of bunches for each variety or one of their preset packages. And then they have videos to guide you how to take care of the flowers and put them together. Ultimately, we went with flowers from Sam's Club because for just a bit more money we didn't have to put anything together ourselves the days leading up to our wedding, which was worth it to me. Sam's also had bulk greenery that I thought was affordable enough for having loose greenery on the table runners. I hope this helps, and good luck!

No advice here - we're doing fake flowers - but you should check out Costco (if you have it in your area?). They have 25 feet of fresh greenery garland for 99 dollars . It's actually fairy easy to pop single flowers into garland (cut the stem, insert in), if you want to do it yourself...check out places like fiftyflowers.com where you can buy lots of fresh flowers.

They also have a wedding package of white flowers and greenery , but it may be more white than you want?? Also includes things like bridesmaids bouquets you don't need (but could maybe be repurposed as décor)?

I've seen it advised sometimes to have real flowers where guests will be upclose (like centerpieces/table garland) and then you can have fake flowers that will be further away from guests. If something like that appeals....check out ling's moment (I'm using them for all my flowers, the quality has been amazing). This two piece arch flowers arrangement sounds like it could work for you, or this 3 piece one .

Greenery is actually quite expensive, especially the kind used for table runners (something that won't wilt when out of water for long periods). I would recommend checking out Fifty Flowers and looking up the type of florals you want (search for "garland"). The prices there are probably less than or on par with what you can expect from a local florist, so that will give you a ballpark number of what to expect.

We are using in season, locally grown flowers and I love the natural, organic look so wanted lots of greenery. For us the cost was the same whether our florals were flower focused or greenery focused. I think the idea that greenery is cheaper is a myth, or maybe that was the case years ago before greenery became more popular.

My day-of coordinator is a high school agriculture teacher, so I was able to cut a lot costs by having her order through the school's wholesale distributor. I'm spending right at $1,000. However, I'm also getting married in a botanical garden, so there's already a lot of florals provided by nature! Smiley smile

Thank you this was super helpful! Some florists have definitely quoted me similar pricing as on that website and others have actually quoted me 3x that price! While I’m definitely not looking to DIY, that gives me a really good idea of which florist to go with! Thank you so much

I am getting my bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 4 corsages, and 10 boutonnières from a local florist and it’s going to be about $700 with delivery.

I am ordering a lot of greenery and flowers for the reception from Sam’s Club (that’s what’s local in my area) and estimating $600 for multiple garlands, centerpieces, and other decor. Planning to get ruscus, eucalyptus, assorted greens, roses, carnations, hydrangea and calla lilies. Will be a lot of work but saving SOOO much $$ to put these together myself. I’ve watch a lot of videos on YouTube and have been getting local flowers for my home to practice making small vase arrangements in the mean time. Feeling confident!
