Maybe I have no sense of humor...but FH and I were watching an episode of 4 weddings and the part with the cake in face, my FH says "I can't wait to do that!" Excuse me, he says "it's tradition!" Really, this coming from the guy who wants nothing to do with traditions....could careless about a first...

Maybe I have no sense of humor...but FH and I were watching an episode of 4 weddings and the part with the cake in face, my FH says "I can't wait to do that!" Excuse me, he says "it's tradition!" Really, this coming from the guy who wants nothing to do with traditions....could careless about a first dance, didn't care if our bridal party was even on both sides, thinks the sand untiy ceremony is "lame!" So now he thinks we should follow some dumb a$$ cake in face "tradition! I told him if he does it I will be beyond pissed! Why should I spend money on having my makeup done so he can ruin it with cake??? Am I the only person who thinks this is a dumb tradition?

Wow....it's kind of cute when it's just a little (not painful, up the nose, all over the face).

But to get so furious that he would say he's doing it? IDK.

My FH said he's going to knock me down on the ground and lick my face instead of kissing me when they say you may kiss the bride. I laughed and said no you aren't.

If he doesn't lick my face I will be ok with a little frosting on the end of my nose.

    @Briton N. -

"Disgusting", "disrespectful", and "crass" are adjectives used to describe the action we're discussing. That's not naming calling; that is actually substantive discussion.

In my case, I'm less concerned with the vanity (although I am validly concerned about that too) than the fact that I just don't think that kind of act is loving or affectionate. When you hear of someone smashing food in another's face, it's usually done in anger and/or an attempt to humiliate the victim. Why on earth would I want my new husband to do that?

Actual name-calling is as juvenile as smashing cake in your new spouse who's all dressed up in formal wear and who took all day to get ready.

Yes, J&R, but it's still insulting to those that follow this tradition. "Doing that to your spouse is disgusting and crass" or "I would think your spouse would be upset that you are ruining the look they worked so hardto achieve for the day". Which is more civil?

And I quote Glenn "You are stupid if..." YOU are stupid. He didn't say the tradition was stupid.

Ok, I re-read and he is actually all for the tradition, but he was still calling OP stupid.

Wasn't Glenn in favor of this practice? I think we agree that calling someONE vs. someTHING out as stupid is uncalled for.

However, I am completely okay with saying that I think something is disgusting and crass even if someone else loves it. I get to decide for me (and we won't do it) and you get to decide for you (if you enjoy it, have at it!). I don't enjoy seeing it, but if it's not my wedding, I'll stand there and smile and keep my opinions to myself. I'll still think it's disrespectful. That's actually the word I used.

It's like a pillow fight or a tickle fight. That's how I've always seen it done. Full of fun affection. You've never swiped a bit of whipped cream, ice cream or frosting or whatever on your partner's face?

    Not in formal wear, lol.

Really, whether this is a good idea depends on what the person whose face will wear the cake thinks. If that person is not on board and the other tries to force it b/c s/he thinks it's funny or a necessary tradition...not cool.

My FH always teases me about this saying he is going to cover my face with the whole top layer hahaha. I always go "nooo!" and we laugh about it. I am going to tell him he can with the piece, but I just want to make sure he doesn't smush it on my forehead or in my eyes.

I think it is disrespectful depending on the situation if the one person 100% doesn't want it. If you talk to each other about it, decide not to do it, and then one person does it anyway - That is definitely rude. If both people want to do it, then go for it. I won't mind the pictures afterwards. I will probably look most natural laughing at the cake on my face than any other picture taken anyways. Plus with my personality, I am sure everyone will be expecting it anyways.

    Lol-Alondra

I do think it's silly to get in a rage about it 7 months before your wedding though.

Ohhh dannggg, I'm so incredibly hurt now. I would comment on how you are 33 trying to insult a '19' year old but you are too sensative to be told that.

Not my thing. I really didn't want cake on my face. I get food all over myself just fine on my own. We fed it to each other with forks.

But I'm curious as to how Alondra became a couple with her FH in April 2012? It is 2011, right? Like, I didn't sleep for a really, really long time, and if I did, why the heck aren't I more awake!

@FMS, at first I was like 'what is she talking about? lol'. No ones ever mentioned that mistake and usually when I work on my profile it's in the middle of the night when I have time. Thanks for noticing! I actually got engaged in 2010.

J&R if you are referring to me, it was a joke. I don't think she is evil. I don't think anyone can be called evil based on a few posts/responses in an internet forum.

Ps - No, I was referring to what appeared to be intended as insults.

Beyond that, I stay out of it! Smiley smile
