Reception at Brewery/intro

Ashley, on November 12, 2015 at 7:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Good morning! I'm fairly new to WW so I thought I'd introduce myself first! I'm Ashley and I'm from DC, my fiancé is from Charleston and we met our last year of grad school Smiley smile we'll be getting married in September 2016 at The Citadel chapel in Charleston (he's a grad) and boy is wedding planning stressful!

I've quickly found how expensive weddings are...especially in Charleston. In efforts to make things more affordable I've been looking at restaurants/breweries that have upstairs spaces you can rent. I always thought I'd have a reception in a rustic venue but this seems to be more sensible. Thoughts? Have you ever been to a reception like this? Does it have a different fee to it? Thank you for any advice!!

Hello and welcome! I got married in Charleston a month ago so I TOTALLY get what you mean about prices, haha. The chapel at the citadel is gorgeous and in high demand, nice job getting it (we tried over a year in advance and it was already booked). As for breweries, we had our rehearsal dinner at Southend on East Bay and it was lovely. We only had 20 people so we were on the smaller, 2nd floor but the 3rd is huge and can, accomodate at least 100, probably more.

Maybe also check out McCrady's and Virginia's on King, I know they have really nice reception spaces too.

@Christine that's where I'm looking! Southend! They have reasonable prices and wouldn't have to worry about many rentals. Your picture of your table is gorgeous! I've heard good things about the food and service there too. I was worried about it having a bar feel to it but it looks like that's not the case in your picture. We'd probably be using the larger upstairs space.

Welcome to WW! I think that having your reception at a brewery would be really nice! I haven't been to any at breweries but I know a couple of friends that have and they really enjoyed themselves.

No bar feeling at all, the private floors are really nice. They provided the linens you see, not expensive at all, and my florist did the flowers and candles, super inexpensive but big impact.

Welcome to WW! I've never been to Charleston (although I want to someday!), so I don't have any venue suggestions, but a brewery sounds so cool! My FH would've loved that haha.

Welcome to the WeddingWire Community @Ashley! Smiley smile

I've never been to Charleston - it's on my 'places to visit' list for next year (seriously, this time!) - but I love the set up the @Christine posted! I think especially if your wedding isn't super huge, you'll have a good amount of options. How many guests are you planning on inviting?

Welcome to WW! I am also having my wedding (ceremony and reception) at a Brewery/restaurant. I can send you an invite to connect (currently on mobile) and tell you more about what we are doing if you'd like. My wedding is in Princeton, so I can't help with location ideas, but sounds like you have one in mind.

@Christina you should definitely visit, it's beautiful there! We're planning on 100-125 (still narrowing down the list) but luckily some breweries in Charkeston have entire upstairs floors you can rent!

@rjmargo that would be great! I'd love to hear your ideas and maybe steal a few Smiley smile
