Reception Dancing or No?

Jimelle, on July 21, 2020 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 10
Hi everyone! Question for all my COVID brides out there who had or are going to keep their wedding this year. I know for sure my FH and I will be having our first dance. But just wanted to ask how dancing with your guests worked out? Did you have to social distance? Were your guests able to dance in clusters? If you had no dancing, what did you do instead? Dancing with my closest family and friends was always the part I looked forward to, and it’s hard to imagine not being able to have your guests dance. I know times are hard, but is there anything anyone has done in place of it? Just wanna make sure my guests are having a good time!

We’re not allowed to have dancing because of health département restrictions at our venue, though we are allowed to have our first dance. Our coordinator had her first event since reopening with restrictions this weekend so I was going to reach out to her and ask how it went. Our reception is in the morning and we were planning on inviting anyone who wants to come to join us for other activities the rest of the day. I’m really at a loss other than board games and the shoe game as far as entertainment.

We are currently planning to have dancing (VA, Sept wedding). BUT, I'm telling the DJ to make an announcement that everyone on the dance floor is required to have a mask and asked that they remove any songs from the dance list that require people touching each other like the train, yadda yadda.

Our younger guests are pretty self-aware, and I've asked them for help in feeling empowered to ask other guests to put on their masks AND keep their distance at the event. I'll also be enforcing distance from myself - maybe just do random whirlwind spins to smack people who are too close to me. 😉We're trying our best here, and hoping for the cooperation and support from our guests.

That’s a great idea! I would like to think guests are understanding about the whole situation at this point in time and a lot of things are out of our control. But I’m sure your wedding day will be amazing regardless! 💖

I’m happy to hear that you’re still able to have dancing on your wedding day! I live in Hawaii and regulations here for big events are clusters of no more than 10 regardless of same household or not but 6 feet apart. I’m trying to follow up with our venue to see how dancing will go. Pretty sure face masks are required but wondering if people can dance in clusters 6 feet apart instead of dancing individually 6 feet apart haha!

We are not allowed to have dancing per out counties public health officer, so I cancelled my dj. I will still be playing music from a speaker. My family arn't big dancers.

We had people dancing and others weren’t. We were able to have the first dance and all the kids loved it.

We were told in May/June that we couldn't have ANY dancing. In July, that has changed to dancing is allowed, but it has to be socially distant - which defeats the purpose of dancing and eliminates a lot of the traditional dances.

Since we're scaling things back, we just won't have any dancing. We're hoping for just background music for a formal dinner, and hope to have an actual party in 2022.

Thank you! Our guests are mainly immediate family and a few close friends, so they are all just excited to celebrate with us no matter what. It’s not what we imagined, but we still get to get married!

We haven't had ours yet but we are allowed dancing. We said that if we couldn't dance we would do a small intimate immediate family ceremony only and do a party next year because dancing to us is the fun of the reception.

My sister just got married this past weekend and the dancing was normal.

Not everyone danced, it was more of the kids. It was still fun. We were able to get some adults to dance with my husband and I.
