Reception Dress - OK if it's not white?

Fawn, on September 17, 2012 at 12:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I would like to get a second dress for the reception. I found this shiny silver one that I like - so inexpensive and it looks comfortable. My wedding colors are black, silver, white and lavender. Opinions?

I think it is perfectly fine. It def fits in with your theme and color scheme. Most importantly, it is a lovely dress that looks comfy. I am all about the comfiness of a party.

I planned on switching to a tropical dress because after riding, travel to the tropics is our next fave thing to do. However, somewhere in the confusion of being slilghtly tipsy, my tipsy behind thought it would have been way more comfy to wear the outfit I planned for breakfast. So, make sure you only put on this dress, even if you are tipsy. : )

I think it's pretty, and who cares if it's not white? You've already worn the white dress for the ceremony, so it's not as though you're breaking with tradition. Go for it!

My reception dress will actually be red brocade (I'm half Chinese and wanted to incorporate my Chinese heritage).

Nope. The wedding police are on their way to arrest you. Besides, how will you stand out and who will know you're the bride?!?!?

    My silly buddy :-)

Lol!!! Carole and Mrs. S - I can always count on you two to make me laugh! The best part about this dress - it's from Dressbarn, it cost $40 dollars and it's stretchy!!!!

Gee, I would love to see other "2nd dresses" if other brides would like to share Smiley smile

I think its fine..by the time the reception rolls around, everyone knows that you are the bride. Smiley winking lol I did see some witches on 4 weddings, talk smack about a bride that changed into a regular party dress for her reception, but really they are strangers and hopefully only act mean for the cameras.

ps I think its a great dress!

I say go for it. I had a fabulous second dress in dusty rose. It was light as feathers and made dancing the night away a breeze.

    Andrene, that's a gorgeous picture!

Dunno about the rest, we've seen many brides who are concerned about "standing out" hahahahaha!

Thanks ladies. The dress is by Pronovias. Style Nairobi. Believe me, I stood out in that dress. People are still talking about it. It helps too that I changed right before we opened the dancefloor. DH and I did a foxtrot to Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight". No one was expecting it because we had already had our first dance when we entered and DH NEVER dances. It brought tears to his Gran's eyes. I think a part of me loves my second dress more than my wedding dress.

Andrene, I was thinking the same thing. Wear the dress for ceremony, cocktail hour, first dance, pictures and then lunch. Change before the real dancing begins! I think I will go ahead and order and see how it looks on me. I still have 6 weeks to go before my wedding. If for some reason, I don't like this one - I can keep looking Smiley smile

Omg, fawn... I was thinking something similar. LAST January, I bought a shimmery silver dress because it was nice and on uber-sale and have not worn it. I was thinking of bringing it to the wedding (our venue is an Inn, so we are staying there that night) because we are having a reception then after party, and i was thinking about changing... didn't know if I should or not, but I will if you will, lol Smiley winking

    Thanks, everyone!!

Lol! Thanks, Tiedaknot, I love the pic and I love the support!

Jacqueline, I'm going to do it!!! My FH is actually very supportive of the idea. He wants me to be comfortable and I really think he's gonna like this dress or something similar. He knows I'm like a crow, always looking to pick up something shiny..... Smiley smile

Trust me Fawn, you will appreciate the comfort factor. I would have crashed under the sheer weight of my wedding gown had I not changed.

Thanks, Andrene! My wedding dress is very form fitting and it's got a chapel train that I can either bustle or I can drag around with me. Although I really love my wedding dress, I think it would be fun to put a dancing dress on and not have to worry about everyone stepping on my wedding dress!
