Reception Food & Drinks

What is the most polite and wedding etiquette to asking wedding guests the options of fish, chicken or red meat. And how many will be drinking?

There’s really no way to ask how many people will be drinking because most people don’t decide that ahead of time. As for meal options, most people just list them on the rsvp card and ask guests to check or initial their choice.

Also, you really only need to ask people what their choice of entree is if you are doing a plated dinner. Don’t ask if you are doing a buffet line.

Okay then yeah you’ll need to know people’s preference so you can tell the caterer. You can put it on the RSVP card and people can mark the number of people from their party that want a specific entree. But i wouldn’t ask for drinks! That would be way too specific

For example, someone might put down that they plan to drink alcohol but then they get pregnant. You can estimate the amount of drinks you need based on how many light/medium/heavy drinkers are in your crowd.

Why are you trying to figure out how many people will drink? Are you buying alcohol yourself and need to know how much to get?

There are a couple of websites online that use a formula to give you estimates of how much you would need per the number of people.
I would just count everyone whose over 21 if you’re not sure how many people don’t drink.

Have a RSVP card that states their meal choice, this way people have to confirm their entree when responding.

Typically you do not send out drinks on the RSVP. Just assume that everyone over 21 will be drinking. I recommend making the bar a "fixed" bar - i.e. 1 or 2 red wine types, 1 or 2 white wine types, beer, and then a few signature drinks. This way you can control the $$$ of the alcohol and not have to worry about buying random alcohol bottles for an off drink.

Etsy, as really cute custom drink templates, and you can order them as foam board from Staples, and then purchase easels at Hobby Lobby - and it looks super cute.

You should just assume everyone is drinking. For food, you can have them just check their choice on their reply card included with the invitation.
