Reception Food

Madelyn, on January 14, 2020 at 8:56 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
Hi everyone! I just wanted to see what other people thought about my reception food ideas.

My reception will begin around 3 and last for about 2-3 hours. I am not doing a full meal since it’s not a meal time. These are my thoughts on what to serve (I’m trying to keep the costs down as much as possible): -Finger sandwiches with ham, turkey, or roast beef from Walmart deli (they are really good!)-chicken minis from Chick Fil A-chips-some type of fruit (like grapes, strawberries, etc)-and then cake for dessert -for drinks I’ll have water, lemonade, sweet tea, and a punch that my mom makes with ice cream
I feel like this is a good variety to have for a afternoon reception. Thoughts?

This sounds perfect to me! I’m in a similar situation and I haven’t decided what to serve. These are great ideas!

I would possibly add unsweet tea as an option for people that don't like sweet drinks but would like something in addition to water. You could possibly drop lemonade in favor of punch if you do that, or just keep both. Other than that, I think the menu looks good for an afternoon reception.

Only thought was if you have any vegetarians attending? They might appreciate a more substantial option than just fruit and chips. Maybe a Veggie sandwich is available to add?

    Looks great!

I would only be concerned about how you'll keep the chicken minis at a safe temperature since they stop serving them at 10:30 am and your reception doesn't begin until 4.5 hours later.

Yeah, do you have anyone in attendance who is vegetarian or vegan? Maybe add in some sort of veggie sandwich as well, even your meat eaters would go for something like that.

We've gotten them for lunch events at work, I think if you do them through catering they make them whenever you want.

To me, 5 is considered a meal time (even if it's early for some people). Can you start the reception at 2 instead? Or can you add something else, like a pasta dish or macaroni salad or hot dogs/hamburgers?

Well the reception will be ending around then. Since it’s starting at 3 I figured people would of had lunch and this would be more finger foods than anything else. To me 5 isn’t meal time yet. It’s more like 5:30 or 6.

Definitely something to think about! I don’t have any vegetarians or vegans attending the reception though.

I think that's fine to serve. My FH and I are doing a buffet for our reception but we're getting married a 4pm and dinner will be served around 5 (we're not doing a cocktail hour). I think for your plans for your reception, that menu is completely fine.
