Reception games/activities

Michelle, on January 30, 2020 at 5:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
I am wanting to give the guests some fun ways to get to know their table buddies during the reception.

Thinking of doing the "I spy" picture game, but I'm not sure if I want to shell out for instax cameras for 10 tables, or just have them use their smartphones and a hashtag (lots of older guests may not get it).

I'd love to get ideas for some other fun games or activities that might engage people!

If you think your guests will enjoy this, then go for it but I definitely wouldn’t spend money on it. I feel like adults don’t necessarily need “ice breakers” at a wedding. If you’re having dancing there usually isn’t too much time at your table when you’re not eating or listening to speeches. And if I was giving a speech and saw people wandering around taking pictures during it I’d be a little uncomfortable. But again-you know your guests best!

I agree with pp. I think it's ok to not have particular ice breakers or games. They'll mingle amongst themselves and amongst the table.

Daughter had no games, no ice breakers, etc. She did assign guests to specific tables using escort cards; generally, people already knew most/all the other guests at their tables or she was pretty confident they'd just introduce themselves and engage in conversation. Besides dinner, nearly all guests were up and dancing all night, and the time flew by. (She had no photobooth, etc., just GREAT photographers and videographers who did a wonderful job capturing people naturally having fun and enjoying themselves. No one seemed to miss having any other "entertainment.")
