Reception - Grand Exit

Jasmine, on November 3, 2020 at 5:39 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12

FH and I aren't sure how if we want to do a grand exit or not. Has anyone done one or plan on doing one?? If so, at what point would you fit that in to still make sure everyone leaves on time?? How did it go if you did do one??

So you could do it 2 different ways. You could always "stage" an exit with some of your guests which would happen during the reception or you could wait until the reception was over when you are actually leaving. Have you though about what props you would like to use for the exit?

No, actually. We haven't thought about props. We'd still have to talk with our venue to see if they have any restrictions.

Yes definitely do that because many don't allow things like confetti etc.

We didn't do any kind of exit because our photographer left an hour and a half before our reception was over. Most of the weddings I've attended where the grand exits were 'staged' didn't go over well, because people were confused, took that as a cue to leave, and guests ended up leaving early. The best time to hold your exit is at the end of your reception! Sparklers make for very nice photos, but not all venues allow them so you'd want to ask about restrictions.

We staged our glow stick grand exit for a couple of reasons. 1- I wanted to make sure all of our guests were included (especially for photos and video). 2- It kept us from having to pay our photographer and videographer for an extra 3 hours.

We did it right after our cake cutting. Afterwards, everyone hit the dance floor. The photos turned out great!

I hadn't thought about that. I actually just emailed her. Thank you!

Oh wow. Good to know. If we do one, we'll be sure to save it to the end. Thanks.

Oh. Well then I guess staging can go either way. Not having to pay extra is always a plus! Glad it worked out for you.

At weddings I've attended it's at the very end of the night, and the DJ and planner have to kind of end the party and funnel everyone to the front of the venue (or wherever you're doing for exit) for 20 minutes and hand out whatever props you're using!

We skipped doing an exit because our venue didn't allow sparklers or confetti, and we preferred to have our photographer capture more of the pre-wedding events so she wasn't scheduled to stay through the very end of the reception. ✨

Our venue allows and is providing sparklers for our staged exit! All the weddings we've been to have had their staged exit around 8-8:30pm (that's usually when the older crowd is ready to leave by). We're then going to have our DJ announce 'last song' to signify that it's time to end the night.

Check with your venue to see what they allow as far as props. If they don't allow fire/sparklers, you could always opt for a bubble exit, bio-confetti, lavender, etc!
