Reception Help

Sabrina, on February 16, 2021 at 1:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hi ladies,

So my husband and I had to postpone our wedding reception due to government mandates changing less than 48 hours before hand. We still went through with our ceremony and were surprised with a mini reception in our large hotel suite where we had dinner, cut the cake, had toasts and our formal dances (first dance, parents etc).

Now I am trying to plan a reception so that our family and friends may celebrate with us. I'm considering having it at the same hotel ballroom venue where it was originally planned on December 12th of this year which would be our 1st wedding anniversary.

I would use the same formal décor, chair covers, linens, centerpieces etc. I'm thinking of just having sheet cakes from our favorite baker and then using our top tier to cut again for guests to see. I would still do a DJ and re-hire our photographer.

Now my dilemma and the help I need from you creative ladies!

This date falls on a Sunday this year. I am considering having the reception from 1pm-5pm. With it being a Sunday I'm leaning more towards beer and wine instead of a full liquor package. What on earth would make sense to serve for food!?!??! Originally we had the typical chicken, sausage, penne with red sauce, green beans almandine, salad and rolls planned but dinner would probably be served by 2pm and I'm at a loss!

Any help with the food and any other creative ideas for the reception since it's a year post ceremony would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Your original menu sounds fine for lunchtime. Be aware that not everyone drinks beer or wine so make sure that there are nonalcoholic options available

I think that’s an excellent idea and timeline menu seems perfect

My wedding was originally planned for a Sunday. Albeit the next day was a federal holiday so 80% of our guests didn’t have to work the next day. My start time was going to be 4pm... I think 10pm is decent end time for a Sunday evening. Most people stay up later watching TV. You can have your wedding scheduled as planned. Having it on a Sunday shouldn’t change things.

I think your menu is fine for a Sunday afternoon. And it will be so much easier on you if you just stick to what you already planned. It's also fine to just serve beer and wine instead of hard liquor.

You could do a heavy appetizer type reception as well and serve a bunch of appetizers (Sandwiches, chicken wings, meatballs, sliders, skewers etc)
