Reception invitations

Maylin, on April 13, 2022 at 4:26 AM Posted in Planning 14 3
My fiancé and I decided to do a small intimate ceremony (our immediate family’s) but are still holding a reception after for the rest of our family and friends. Do I need to send save the dates at all or do I just send the invitation a few weeks in advance like a wedding invitation?

How many people would have to travel from out-of-town for this reception? Keep in mind you can do a save-the-date via email instead of a printed card for everyone.

For countless generations up until the last 5 years, save the dates were a phone call at 6 months out to the entire guest list. It’s also cheaper than a postcard. Send the invitations at the standard 6-8 weeks. Be aware that some people will decline if you are not inviting guests to both ceremony and reception as many feel they are equally important.
