Hello ladies.
I have 11 more days and I am losing my mind.
From the beginning we have planned to have dinner before the dances and stuff like that at the reception. We are getting a lot of weird comments from family members. My question is is it normal to eat before the “big” dances? Or should be start the reception, eat, dance then cut cake?
What did you ladies do/doing.

We are doing our first dance and a small 20-30 min dance set to get everyone pumped. then toasts and dinner followed by our other special dances, then another 30 min dance set, cake and then the rest of the evening will be dancing. that way our guests have as much time dancing as possible. we showed out DJ the timeline we had and he added in dance sets so it kept everything moving.

I'm not sure about everyone else but we're going to have the ceremony, cocktails, Welcome speeches, cake cutting, prayer, 1st course, speeches by the parents of the bride & groom, main course, dessert, 1st dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, wedding party dance, everyone dances, & then the last dance at 11:25. Hope this helps!

We worked with our DJ on the timing of our recpetion and he had 2 timelines that he liked to use 1 where you do the big dances at the beginning and one where they have dinner first and did the dances closer to the cake cutting.

We did the dances at the beginning because my fiance was so nervous and I wanted him to be able to relax sooner and enjoy more of the night.

We are doing dinner before dances. FH has a "clever" way to open the dance floor to transition the mood...plus hangry guests is never fun.

It all depends on you. I walk down to reception after being introduce and it wasn’t dark enough so we did dinner first then speeches, cut cake and then dances.

I think you should do whatever works best for you and what makes most sense for the flow of your day Smiley smile

We ate before, because our reception didn't start until 7 and I didn't want to push dinner back any further. I also like the dances after dinner, because it seems to make the transition into everyone dancing easier.

Don't lose your mind! And especially because others are giving you advice on what they think should happen. This is you and your FH wedding and reception. You do it the way that's best for the both of you.

Personally, I hadn't thought of it but I would rather do the dinner right after introductions so people can eat. Toast can be done during dinner which is great because people are drinking anyway. After dinner, the first dance, parent's dance, and other preliminaries can start. If you want to include those (bouquet toss, garter toss, etc). The cake cutting I would save for after the bouquet/garter toss. But it's strictly up to you! Enjoy! And CONGRATS!!!!
