Reception pizza

Chasity, on September 3, 2019 at 6:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 37
This has probably been asked, however, I’m gonna ask again. We are doing gourmet pizza for our wedding reception. We will also have a salad bar, pinwheels, and a variety of pasta salads. Myself and the groom love pizza. My mom is vehemently opposed. She thinks it’s tacky. I would agree if I were just throwing out some dominos. However, these aren’t your traditional pizzas. Some include crawfish tails, shrimp, pimento cheese, bbq chicken, a few vegetarian options. It is a 4:30 ceremony with reception to follow. Thoughts?

I think it sounds fun! If you and FH are happy with it, that’s all that matters. Plus everyone loves pizza!

I'm all for gourmet wedding pizza! As you mentioned, it's not like you're ordering 100 boxes of Pizza Hut or Domino's!

My friend had pizza, albeit not as gourmet as yours, and we loved it! I still think about it to this day haha

I am also planning on doing pizza at my wedding and I have gotten some slack- just brush it off! People are going to LOVE eating delicious pizza over a mediocre steak. Plus, most of the caterers I have gotten quotes from do not limit people to one plate, people can have seconds!

Thanks y’all! My mother and I got into a knock down drag out fight early. She just thinks it’s the tackiest thing she’s ever heard of. I’m just happy we finally settled on something that wasn’t going to cost us thousands in a catering bill.

I live pizza! We are doing food trucks and I'm debating between brick oven pizza truck or BBQ truck. We are for sure having a taco truck, icecream truck, and bar truck.

Can you maybe take ur mom to try some of the pizzas? I just think everyone loves pizza. It yummy and filling and soo soo good after a couple drinks. You can eat it steaming hot or a little cooled. Yum!

Whoever declines, invite me! I love nontraditional wedding food. I do have gotten some slack because we are having a semi-formal industrial wedding with Southwestern food ( taco bar, mexicanti salad, southwestern sliders and mac and cheese).

Steak and potatoes are great for weddings. Everyone loves it. However, it is so not us at a couple, and it is perfectly fine if it isn't you either.

What’s wrong with pizza? People have food trucks and bbq and tacos now. Anything goes for reception food. As long as guests are being fed some good eats, no one will care.

Are they being made on site? I went to a wedding where they had a brick oven on a trailer and made the pizza 2 or 3 at a time. It was not fast enough to keep up with the demand and feed everyone enough for dinner. There were many drunk sick people because there was an open bar but not enough food.

They are not. We are renting a pizza warmer. We plan to serve 10 at a time while keeping 10 in the warmer. We will be picking them up approximately an hour before the ceremony begins and keeping them warm. Our venue is a non alcoholic venue. So, that took the worry of to much alcohol out of the scenario.

I considering the food truck idea myself. We also talked to a caterer where our end total was $2400. Then we played with preparing all the food ourselves with help from family and friends and once we started making out the grocery list, I was like I don’t want to do this. No one is going to enjoy anything, because we are going to be so occupied with food prep.

As long as it’s not a formal wedding, you’re fine! Gourmet pizza (properly kept warm and served) would be soooo delicious! Will there be a gluten-free kind or salad with maybe chicken wings for dairy and gluten-intolerant guests?

    YUM. 😋

You know your guest list (and their dietary needs) better than anyone. I would be a little bummed because it sounds like a brown bag (or salad only) reception for me but as long as everyone is able to eat your food that sounds great.

I love it! We are also doing pizza, we’re hiring a wood fired company who is bringing their oven to the site to make them. I’m very happy we haven’t faced any opposition yet, everyone is excited about the idea! Do what you are happiest with...you can’t please everyone! What will matter most in the end is how happy YOU were about it. It does suck your mom is putting up such a fuss though.

Sounds good to me. I like that it’s not the typical reception meal.
