Reception Space

Gabby, on January 4, 2021 at 10:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
So we will be having the ceremony and reception at my FH's church. The ceremony will be in the sanctuary. I will do a little decorating there to make it look nice. I will do a lot of decorating to the social hall and that will be where the reception is held. It's not a super large space but plenty of room for the tables and food and bartender. The social hall has doors that lead to a large enclosed court yard. My thought was to have the dancing out there. I have a couple questions for everyone.
Is it weird to have dancing in a slightly different place? It's not far at all but you do walk through one door. I think it would be weird to move back to the sanctuary for dancing, so that's why I thought court yard.
What kind of decorating/lighting should we do to the courtyard to make it dance ready? We might also host karaoke here at the end of the night. How should we structure the first dance so everyone can easily see? There will be a few elderly people who we need to have sitting the whole time if possible.
Thanks!

I don't think it would be weird to have the dancing in a courtyard, especially if it isn't far away. Will you have chairs in the courtyard as well or will it strictly be for dancing? As far as lighting you could either do uplighting or make it really fun and do like a disco ball type lighting.

We could probably set a few tables and chairs out there! It's a very large space so I'm sure there'd be room for chairs and a few tables.

I think that would be perfectly fine, and just have some chairs in case people would like to sit down (mainly elderly)

I think that's a good idea. Im sure some of them will want to stay inside the social hall. I'm wondering if we should get another speaker set inside so they can hear the music in the hall as well.

It wouldn't be weird. Check with your states covid mandates. Some states banned dancing at gathers whether indoor or outdoor.

Will do! I've seen people on social media hosting very large unmasked weddings (not that I agree with that) but I'm hoping we're good to do our small wedding with dancing in mid to late October.

Sounds beautiful!! If the weather is in your favor you could move the reception out there. Market lights and lanterns with battery operated lights would look so charming!! Our florist did market lights and brought in twinkle trees that make for a magical atmosphere. 🍁✨ I can’t wait to see how your wedding unfolds!!

Thanks! Those are great ideas. I thought about the reception out there but i think it would be too loud. It's in downtown Louisville so it will be pretty noisy outside.
