Reception Update

K Thomas, on September 7, 2020 at 10:36 PM Posted in Married Life 1 19
UPDATE - Our reception is over! We had about 20-25 of the 80 RSVP's show up, and a handful of those were kids lol

Ultimately we wasted alot of money, but we enjoyed the crowd that did show. Hair, makeup, and photography were great! Nothing else went to plan really.
Our DJ was a no show, so there was no music, no first dance, no one to facilitate the "schedule". My center pieces were not what I imagined because I didn't get my waterbeads. I spent $200 on masks for everyone that RSVP'd, so needless to say most of them didn't get used because people decided not to show.
I did enjoy being able to talk to everyone there, and the laxed schedule. But I will never plan another event ever again! I consider it an epic fail, especially because in our original plans, we had a family pre-wedding dinner planned at Mary Macs Tea room in ATL that fed about 20 people for $900. That was a small fraction of what we spent for the actual reception if self, just for the same headcount to show up.
Also most of the RSVP'S that didn't show have not reached out about gifts or even sending a card.

I'm so sorry that happened. I do hope the photos turn out beautiful and you'll have some fond memories with the guests you were able to interact with. People can be so thoughtless - not even giving you the courtesy of a heads up or explanation. You have good reason to vent.
I hope as bad as your wedding was, your marriage is 10x as *good*. ✌️

OMG. I’m so mad and sad for you! 😠 😭 We had a few no-shows but nothing like 50%+ which is beyond rude. Covid has been with us for months so that’s no excuse—they could have RSVP’d “no” if they didn’t plan to go. And what happened to the DJ???

    Big hugs to you. 🤗 🤗 🤗

Thank you! The DJ got his calendars crossed. He said he had so many reschedules and cancellations that he got us confused with dates. He did apologize profusely, and issue a full refund same day however.

I am so sorry to hear of the disappointing aspects of your day, but hopefully you are able to look back on it and mostly remember the beautiful and positive parts! I agree with the pp who said that there is no excuse for that many no-shows, even under the circumstances. I hope that some of those people make it up to you somehow. Congratulations on your marriage!

I’m so sorry to hear this. Your definitely making the best of your wedding day. Unfortunately I don’t think you can get refunded for anything.

I’m sorry it didn’t go as planned. It sucks about your DJ but it’s nice of him to issue the refund. Our DJ called the other day to tell me his other weddings have all rescheduled and basically told me to reschedule. We don’t plan to so we won’t have a DJ. As for the no shows, that’s really frustrating. I know it’s common for some to rsvp yes and then not show but that was a huge number. I hope that your pictures turn out beautifully and that you’ll have fond memories once the hurt and disappointment has passed.

Oh my goodness I am so so sorry that happened to you. I agree with other pp, no excuse for not reaching out to you in advance to let you know they’re not coming...so inconsiderate given all the time and money that goes into planning a wedding. Hope you can now just relax and enjoy the married life! Wishing you all the best

I'm so sorry people did that, and every one likely thinking they were the only one, you would not miss them. You were worried before. Sorry you were right. Did you have any honeymoon type plans? Add the DJ money. Have a long and happy marriage, that is the important thing. I can't understand, RSVP yes and not show, and I hope they feel terribly guilty and send mighty gifts.
