Recommendation for good walking shoes on honeymoon?

caroline, on August 6, 2012 at 6:08 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 6

Hello Ladies, I'm hopefully going on my honeymoon in a couple of months to Italy, and we know we're gonna be doing a lot of walking so I need suggestions on what shoes to wear on the trip. Since I live in Socal, I don't get to do a lot of walking normally (other than shopping..) so my "walking shoes" are usually flip flops and ballerina flats which I know will not do the job for an all day sight seeing kind of job.. I know I might be asking too much for something that's not only comfortable but also somewhat fashionable, but any tips/suggestions?? Thanks so much!!

Holy cow Caroline. I'm your honeymoon twin. I too went to Italy for my honeymoon It was simply breath taking. your gonna LOVE it!! I live in so-cal and I know what you mean about the shoes. However I NEVER wear flats I wear heels or wedges all the time so it was kinda hard for me to wear flats. But I did it. I bought a really comfortable pair of sketcher flip flops and I also wore my nike tennis shoe. For nights out I wore my heels though. I just couldn't help it. Smiley smile

I bought 3 pair of Clarks for our HM to Spain. Lots of hills, cobblestone streets, slippery stone sidewalks, and walking all day long. One was a high-heel wedge with an ankle strap, one was a Mary Jane with a mid-height heel, and the other was a really padded flip flop. I also brought a pair of knee boots that I wore with gel inserts and comfy socks (it was spring so there was lots of rain and some cold days), and my feet were very happy throughout the trip!

I find that I'm so used to walking in heels, my calves and shins and arches actually get more sore if I switch it up and wear shoes with zero heel for sightseeing. A little lift helps me out!

The Mary Janes aren't exactly the same but they're similar!

I LOVE Dansco sandals and clogs. They are so comfortable, and designed for exactly what you're looking for. They are designed to support your foot and arch and I had no problems wandering around Mazatlan, Mexico and uneven sidewalks and roads. During the summer I pretty much live in my Dansco sandals!

    Italy?

You go barefoot and buy many, many pairs of shoes there.

I would only take a couple of pairs of shoes with you, and then go on a spending spree in Italy!!! It is Italy after all. I would suggest bringing a pair of flip flops most definetly and then a pair of walking shoes that you can break in before you go. You don't want to get blisters on your feet when you are there. I bought a pair of walking shoes before I went to Barbados on my honeymoon, and broke them in a for a couple of weeks. Anyway enjoy your honeymoon !!
