Recommendations for Best Champagne & Wine

Ashley, on May 13, 2021 at 4:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 18
Does anyone have any champagnes, red and white wines they recommend? Our wedding is BYOB so I’m trying to pick out the best!

Do you have a Total Wine near you? The staff is really helpful AND as long as the bottles are not damaged (labels off or damaged) they will take back the unopened ones.

An inexpensive wine my friends and I have been loving is the Stella Rosa line. They are sweeter wines, not your traditional wines, but they've been a hit lately and are only 12-14 per bottle.

Also, agree with the above! go to your local store, they can be super helpful.

Alcohol preferences vary by group. What your family and friends enjoy may be quite different from recommendations here. Honestly just ask your VIPs what they like and go from there. Champagne though is personal preference. Some people love it and others won’t touch it no matter what brand it is. So make sure that it served to those who specifically request in order to prevent waste. You should be able to return unopened bottles to Costco or BevMo/TotalWine.

I agree with the others that everyone has different taste and you may not like what we suggest, but laying that aside, my personal favourite champagne is Perrier Jouet. It's not too sharp, but definitely isn't sweet either. I think the bottles are beautiful too:

Right?! They have a pink one which I think is a little sweeter if you like sweet! (Pink is my favourite colour, so I’m biased haha)

It's not technically champagne, but I love the LaMarca prosecco. It's really tasty and inexpensive. Also, I like drier wines, so I prefer merlots, pinot noirs, and malbecs as reds. Pinot grigio is tylically a good, balanced white. I 2nd others who suggested you check out Total Wine and speak with them. I would have at least 1 drier wine if you go with more sweet unless you know all your wine drinking guests prefer sweet wines.

My favorite Champagne is from Wilson Creek Winery. They have a bunch of different flavors, too. It is more like "sparkling wine" but delicious & non headache inducing.

Even if it’s just a local wine store, the staff there are trained to help advise wine recs for all situations and in all price points. If you go in and ask for a “crowd pleaser” in your budget, they should be able to provide it. You could then buy a bottle to sample/maybe share with friends who might be attending the wedding. Everyone’s crowd is a little different, but you know yours best. Unless you *know* everyone likes it, please don’t do all sweet wines. They can be VERY polarizing. Most of our guests weren’t into sweet but we knew we had a handful who were, so we were sure to have one option that would appeal to them, and plenty of dry options for the others. Because of this I tend to recommend having 2 red types and 2 white types, so you can appeal to a wider audience.

    Wine snob here!

I agree with everyone about going into a liquor store that may offer some tastings and can help you pick something out, especially if you don't know a lot. That being said...

I saw that you like sweeter wines. I'd definitely recommend a Spumanti for a champagne as it's sweet and in my experience, nearly everyone loves it. It's a little sweeter than prosecco.

For other choices...you have to think about your crowd as well because I doubt you'll be drinking all of the wine yourself! Most safe options to go with for whites are a pinot grigio or reisling, but reislings can be sweet or dry, so be careful if that's what you pick and try to get a middle ground one. For reds, most people like a pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon. Pinot noir is a little bit sweeter than cabernet, which is more of a bold flavor. I recommend the Josh brand, but they are more middle ground when it comes to price, anywhere from $13-20 per bottle. But VERY good! I also like 14 Hands, which is a little cheaper than that. Best of luck!

Very specific, but I love Chateau Morrisette wines! They are local to me (about 40 mins away), but they have an online shop too!

We love their Black Dog red table wine — it's smooth enough to go with just about anything!

The viognier (white) is YUMMY! It's a drier wine but has pear and grapefruit profiles. It's my personal fav, but a little expensive to buy enough for everyone.

We opted for the Black Dog and the Vidal Blanc (a slightly sweeter, full-bodied white). Last month, when we bought ours, they were running a special for 30% off cases and 20% of bottles. I'd check them out!!!
