Rectangular vs Round tables?

Diane, on September 2, 2018 at 5:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hi everyone!

I'm having a backyard wedding on 9/21/19 at my home in Illinois. We are expecting 100-150 guests, and I'm wanting to have 3 tents in a "U" shape with a dance floor in the middle (I've included a picture for reference). I'm thinking we're going to have half the guests on one side, half on the other (each with their own buffet), DJ in the middle tent, and our sweetheart table at the end of the dance floor facing everyone and everything. I've been going wild on Pinterest and LOVE the look of rectangular tables, but would like some input. Does anyone know what would be better for a tented reception? Would round be more comfortable? Which one fits more people? And which is the more inexpensive option? Thanks in advance!

This is an awesome set up, Diane!! I did a little research. It looks like eight people can sit comfortably around a 96 inch rectangular table or a 60 inch diameter circular table. How many people do you think will attend?

In my opinion, the circular tables would be better because there's better wiggle room and flow from one side of the tent to the other. With the rectangular tables, I feel like it would feel more rigid, more like a cafeteria. Also, at a circular table, everyone is facing each other, so, in my head, conversation amongst the table is easier.

    Hope that helps!! Smiley smile

Oh my goodness Maggie thank you sooo much!!!! While aesthetically, I love the look of rectangular, you bring up some very good points about the round tables. And my family definitely has the gift of gab! Think we're going to go with round tables. Thank you so much!

I think the round tables are good if everyone’s under the same tent but the way these tents are set up the tables look awesome that way

Not a problem, Diane!! Remember, it's your wedding, so if you like the rectangular tables better, then go for it! Smiley smile

I'm getting married the same day!

I love the setup you have chosen. Rounds might be more conducive to socializing, but either could work.

I’m getting married the same day with a tented style too! I love the set up of this, it looks fabulous btw! I think a mix of round and rectangle tables depending on your guest list could be a good choice. For example a round table full of family who knows each other mixed with some rectangle tables for people who might not know everyone at the table could be a good compromise.

Hey Diane!!! How goes your tent configuration? Have you figured out more of the dimension and logistics yet?
