Recycled Wedding Decor

My FH and I are on a very tight budget. We don't have the means to have a huge elaborate/expensive wedding. My sister mentioned that we could probably find some decor from other newlyweds who are trying to sell their wedding decor (who needs 14 vases after their wedding, right?!). Anyway, I thought...

My sister mentioned that we could probably find some decor from other newlyweds who are trying to sell their wedding decor (who needs 14 vases after their wedding, right?!). Anyway, I thought this was a good idea, but I wasn't sure of good places to find these kinds of things. Has anyone done this? How did it work out for your wedding? Thanks!

I see people local to us that post wedding items all the time! We got lucky that our venue is basically all inclusive (they're taking care of the sashes for the chairs, center pieces and the like, but we're also only having a 25 person wedding max) so we're set. If you budget and browse through your local craft stores and thrift shops, you can make some amazing decorations for nothing!

Facebook. I did a lot of dollar store and goodwill shopping. And I scoured coupons and bought things over time.

Facebook groups are great. I've had some luck with finding some awesome things on clearance at craft stores (Michaels, Joanne's, hobby lobby)

Amazon! I'm an Amazon fiend :p I found a ton of decorations I really liked, threw them in my cart, and I get a notification whenever the price drops!

Let go, and offer up were also good- but it was much less frequent that I found things.

To echo what PP said FB groups - I'm in Houston and there are A LOT of "Bride to Bride" groups. Next best place - THRIFT STORES and GOODWILL - I LIVE in THEM year round. Lots of beautiful crystal, picture frames, wall art that has lived long past it's prime but that frame is just waiting for some paint or rub n' buff and you've got yourself chalkboards, wedding signage, table numbers - the sky is the limit!! Ooh I'm sorry I got excited!! LOL!

Looking for chargers? You're getting married in May so make sure to be in a Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Walgreens or any store that stocks up on beautiful metallic chargers as seasonal merchandise only right after the new year. After Christmas they can't wait to get rid of them. Last year WM had them for 25 cents!!

I got my wedding dress and some wedding decor off of Facebook marketplace. You can set it so you'll get notifications when items you're interested in get posted (I have alerts set for "gold wedding decor").

I bought one thing off of a Facebook wedding group. I would have bought more had people posted stuff I wanted .... If you go with one of the popular themes you're more likely to see stuff (in that area it was most country chic: mason jars/burlap/etc, none of which fit my wedding).

I also bought a ton of stuff from dollar tree, hobby lobby, and Amazon.

Also both my cousin and my SIL had a bunch of stuff from their weddings (4+ years ago) that also didn't fit my theme, but that I could have borrowed for free if it had, so check with people you know who got married in the last 5-10 years too to see if they have suggestions or stuff you could buy/borrow.

You're on the right road. I always look at those tall centerpieces, compote pieces, and medium pieces that were so precious to the bride, but will be clutter after the wedding. Go for it. Find Craiglists listings or specific post bridal forums that will give you lots of resources. You florist or décor artist will work with whatever your present.
