Refunds of payments made

Nicole, on January 30, 2021 at 6:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hey all!

We’ve postponed our wedding already from December to May and now we want to make the decision to cancel altogether before some of vendors charge payments beyond the initial deposit. We won’t be able to have the wedding we wanted in May now and it’s not worth the additional costs. However, we have already paid in full the bills for our photographer and DJ. This was a smart move before the pandemic.... just wondering if I am able to be refunded for what I’ve paid, even if the two vendors keep their deposit. I don’t care about the deposit, I just want our additional payments back. We got married in a small ceremony in December and it’s just not worth it to us to reschedule again. We’d rather have a baby and buy a house! Anyone have any experience with this?

Look at your contracts with these vendors. They should speak to how payments and refunds, if any, are handled.

Completely dependent on the vendor and the contract you signed with them. A lot of them have a clause saying if you cancel more than 30/60/90 days before you can get $X amount back, so I would check for that.
We downsized our wedding and received our money back from the venue and a credit for reducing our cake size. But I know if we wanted to cancel our photographer or officiant, the only option we have is to reschedule or else we lose all our money.

It seems like you should be able to get your payment back aside from the "non-refundable" deposit. But yes, I would double check your contracts to see what is says.

Hey all, yes, totally agree about the contracts... I know one contract does not specify anything related to timeframe or cancellations but another does. I appreciate your feedback I just wanted to see if anyone has gone through this yet and how it worked out for them. Thanks!
