Register for Gift Cards??

FMW ~ BatLlama, on March 10, 2010 at 1:08 PM Posted in Married Life 0 4

My FH and I currently live in California, but shortly after we wed, we're going to move to Colorado. We'll need all the house warming stuff we can get! BUT we're concerned about getting it all there, We're trying to just take our one vehicle, and a small trailer thing for the bed, and a few boxes (there won't be much extra room). and We don't want to risk anything breaking or gone missing during our trek!

So we're trying to think of a way to go about the registry. We aren't sure how long after the wedding that we'll be moving. I've thought about just shipping it all, but that could get pretty expensive... But I don't want to just register for gift cards! I mean, it would be great, but isn't that a little tacky?

Anyway, long story short. Can anyone think of some ideas about how to do this?

We're stumped! =(

You can register for whatever you want, and you get cash for it. Then you can buy whatever you need for your new place.

You could pass along your wishes by having your parents and bridal party tell guests. This is something one of my friends did.

Trying to figure out registry items can be a little stressful! I am a professional wedding coordinator in Houston, and I have lots of clients that ask these same questions! I recently was on our local Fox news station discussing just this: Wedding Registries! It is not tacky to ask for Cash or gift cards especially if that is what you really need and want! I would suggest doing an online registry where you can register for traditional gifts and add a registration for Cash or gift cards to stores where you shop. There are lots of online registry companies to choose from. Try theknot.com, weddingsolutions.com, and weddingwire should also have some vendors that provide this exact service. Just do a little research on which online registry company you feel comfortable with. The registry company usually has something that you can print out and include in your mail outs to guests (with your save-the-dates or shower invites). Hope this helps!!

MyRegistry.com has a "give as cash gift" option. So you could go ahead and register for whatever you like from any store you want (another perk of this site) and then make a nice homepage for your registry explaining your situation and that it would be a huge help if guests selected this option. That way your guests will know what they are giving you, but you can wait until you've moved to go get the actual items from the stores.
