Registering for same items, different stores?

Katelyn, on February 21, 2018 at 10:27 PM Posted in Registry 0 14

Is this a thing? Is it appropriate to register for same items, but different stores? Not necessarily trying to double chances (although it seems like it), but really a matter of buyers preference of store? I'm second guessing, as we were told it was okay. Thoughts?

I wouldn't. You are sure to get doubles. People are always free to shop off registry to find a better price.

I wouldn't, you'd probably end up with doubles of several items.

You might get duplicates if one person buys it at one store, and someone else buys it from another store (without seeing that someone else had already purchased it at the other store).

My friend who got married last summer did this and she got doubles! I made sure to register for certain categories of things at different stores so that wouldn’t happen.

No I wouldn't do this. You're setting yourself up for more trouble than it's worth. Avoiding duplicate items is one of the reasons to have a registry so this doesn't make sense.

This is a bad idea. You will wind up with doubles and have a lot of returning to do. Register at different stores for different items. Guests have a choice.

I haven't made my wedding registry yet but I did this for my baby registry. I had one at Amazon and one at Babies R Us, I registered for the same or similar things on both in case people wanted to price compare (Amazon always came out cheaper)/use Prime if they had it, whatever. I had to stay on top of the registries to make sure if something was bought on one I took it off the other, but it wasn't an issue and wasn't hard to do. In the end I just deleted my Babies R Us registry because everything was just far too overpriced compared to Amazon and I wanted everyone to get the best price. But while I had both, I thought it worked well.

Do it so long as the stores have an exchange policy.

So I did. I am registered at Target and Bed bath and beyond. I have been removing stuff when I see its already bought at the other store to try to save getting doubles. But I just want to make sure I am covered

I wouldn't do this just because you will get multiple of the same items. What I did was picked 3 different sites and then out of the items that we wanted, I ultimately chose the site that had the best reviews and price.

People can always look at your registry and buy the same item at a different store if they want to.

I see a lot of people talking about removing things that have been purchased but I would want to be surprised, so I’m thinking I might ask my Mom to check my registries and remove things that were bought at other stores... That’s if I decide to do this 😅

I wouldn't. I wouldn't want to deal with returns on the chance I do get gifted the same thing twice.

I did without realizing it and now I’m going to get a double of a cutting board whenever my bridal shower is, that’s not necessarily a bad thing but I don’t want two of the exact same thing.
