Registry Advice!

Sarah, on July 13, 2020 at 1:15 PM Posted in Registry 0 18
Any brides out there have advice on what to put on your registry? Mine feels pretty bare (and lame). What did you get that you don’t need/want anymore? What did you forget to add that would’ve been great?

Background: My fiancé and I have been living together for about a year, and we just moved into our first house. We’d love to get some more personalized, individual gifts from places like Etsy.

I added a microwave because i really didn't have one and then when i bought my house, it had one aha so that is something i don't use.

i also wish i added an air fryer and an instant cooker instead of a slow cooker!

My fiancé loves to cook so he’s got an air fryer, instant pot, AND a crock pot. He could feed an army!

We have been living together in an apartment for several years, so I looked at what I would like to upgrade and/or replace. I also tried to add as I go. For instance, when I was like "man, I wish I had more than 1 vegetable peeler," that got added to the registry. I also decided I wanted to move away from plastic tupperware, so I registered for pyrex tupperware containers instead. Our towels were getting a little old, so I added those. I added an instant pot which we love and use a lot (mostly in the winter for stews/chilis/etc). We also added some fun things, like a cooking torch. My husband's favorite dessert is creme brulee, so I registered for a torch and custard ramekins. However, I have not made him creme brulee yet lol, so that hasn't been used.

Thanks so much! We’ve added some things like measuring cups/spoons to our registry because we realized we are missing some. Now that we have space to have guests, I definitely want guest towels. What towel I use for myself is not the same as what I’d want my guests to see!

My problem is that my FH tends to buy things that I had on the registry. So I have been having to remove things from the registry as he buys them 🤦🏼‍♀️

But like previous people said, most of my things are from college or the past 7 years of living in my townhouse. Look for the things you wished you had, the things you need replaced, and all else fails, gift cards to places you shop are always a good choice. We also have a honeymoon wishes registry that people can choose to give to for our cruise.

I’ve definitely had a few “slap it out of his hands” moment. If he keeps buying things that are on our registry, we won’t have a registry!

I’m struggling with how to ask for gift cards/experiences because I’ve heard from a few people (guests included but I haven’t sent my invites yet) that they find gift cards/experiences tacky and “not real gifts”. Have you had the same problem?

We upgraded a lot of things! So nicer silverware, towels, sheets, dishes etc. We also registered for things we will be able to use one day for entertaining like serving platters, a beverage dispenser, cheese board and stuff like that. We haven’t used that stuff a ton yet but I know down the line we’ll be glad we have it!

We were the same way! Ended up adding more of “upgrade” items that we already had. Like a nicer dish set and a nicer bake set. Air fryers are popular. If you don’t want anything or can’t think of anything I wouldn’t put unnecessary items that you don’t really want

Honestly no one has bought anything off the lists. And since most of our guests are out of state, I don’t anticipate much in physical presents.
But I know some people who are uncomfortable giving cash and don’t want to wrap/bring a present.
Quite honestly, you’re never going to please everyone, so I say do what works best for you and FH.

My husband and I lived together for almost three years before we got married. We registered for items that we wanted to upgrade like new utensils, plates, bowls, etc. I wanted an air fryer and Instapot, but I see that you already have them. You could ask for recipe books for them. We went room by room and made a list of things we wanted for each room then we went to the store and decide in person the items we wanted.

Bed Bath and Beyond has a list of suggestions. Upgrade your linens and dishes. Are there appliances or similar items you want?

We had just bought our first house as well so we included yard care items, storage for the garage, fun things like games for us to do together, a bike pump, decorations, sheets and towels, some cookware I wanted, tools, a cooler, a lawn mower, a vacuum, and small pieces of furniture. The only things we regretted were gifts we were given that were not on our registries. Think about those practical things you'll want for the house. Those are the ones I've been most grateful for.

We registered mostly for stuff that we already have, but wanted to upgrade, plus some nice entertaining/serving items. We also registered for some beach things, like compact chairs, a cooler, and a waterproof blanket. If you have a wedding website through the knot, there's a feature where you can add things from any store to your registry even if you can't register at that store, which might be a good way to add things from etsy.

    Hi Sarah! And Congratulations!
Put EVERYTHING on your registry ad let your guess have choices. And what you don’t get you purchase yourself. In today’s age the sky is the limit. Have fun if you’re able even with COVID-19! I’ve been living with my FH for 4 years and we’re anticipating buying our marital home sometime within the next year or two ( COVID-19 banks not given certain loans) he doesn’t care for any gifts . I do just for the fun an excitement of doing and trying to enjoy the process regardless!

I've always been a "pick up what I need at a thrift store-function over looks" kind of person, so I upgraded all of my second- (third- and fourth- lol) hand items. I figured it is time for me to be a real grown up. lol We also added board games and party games to our list because we like having game nights.

We had been living together for quite a while and owned a home. So we upgraded a lot of our home items. We also added a lot of great things like a Roomba, a french press, and a new grill.

Here's a great article I found on this site that I think would be so helpful for you! Lots of great ideas and advice. It's so fun to walk around an actual store and look at things to decide what you want. If you haven't done that, and have time to/can, I definitely recommend that. There's so many great things you can ask for even if you think you have it all.
