Registry Etiquette

Tori, on May 11, 2019 at 6:40 AM Posted in Registry 0 11
I need some advice on some registry etiquette. We're less than a week out from the wedding and just received the completion discount coupon from our Target registry. We have a rather small registry and most of the stuff has been purchased already, but as we received gifts from bridal showers and such, there have been a few things I wish we had registered for. Mostly storage stuff, we didn't register for any bins or such to help store all our new stuff. But the discount only works on things actually on the registry... Would it be considered rude if I suddenly started adding stuff to the registry this late? I totally intend to buy it myself with the discount, but that won't be obvious to any last minute shoppers looking at the registry.

I think it’s fine. The people that would be looking at it now probably haven’t looked before so they would never know. And with less than a week to the wedding I highly doubt anyone will even look at it. People probably have their gifts for you already.

I did this too with stuff I wanted to get! It doesn’t notify people that you added stuff and I don’t really see why anyone would care if they did see you added things. Some people told me I needed to add things because I didn’t have enough left anyway

I’m exactly a week out and haven’t had that many bites on my registry yet. A friend who got married last year said that in his experience most of his registry gifts were bought right before or right after the wedding. I don’t think it will be a problem to add some last minute things.

After her shower where she received most of what was on the registry, daughter added stuff in the last couple weeks before the wedding because she knew some of their younger-just-starting-out friends would rather be able to purchase something (relatively inexpensive) rather than the awkwardness of a cash gift or gift card. I don't think anyone care (and most didn't notice). I'd say add away!

There’s nothing wrong with adding to your registry and no one will probably even notice.

Thanks everyone! I feel much less weird about adding stuff now. You're right, probably no one will even notice!

No, it’s fine. You can think about it as adding a few last minute items in case any guests are doing last minute shopping. There’s no call to purchase with a registry, so it’s not like you’re telling people to run out and buy you these things. I really wouldn’t sweat it.
Also for what it’s worth— when we went to use our completion discount at Macy’s, browsing the store we found a couple new items we wanted. I literally added them to the registry while we were standing in the store so we could get the sale price 😳🤣
