Registry gift - washing machine?

Sabrina, on November 4, 2017 at 7:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate thing to add to a registry. We purchased a home that needs some TLC, we haven't lived together and won't be till the wedding. So there is obviously lots that we could put on a registry but do you guys think it's rude to put a washing machine or tumble dryer on there? One thing that is important to us was to get a good bed for the both of us as FH has shoulder problems from college football, so we thought we would combine gift cards and pay the rest ourselves. Would a gift card be more appropriate in this instance?

I wouldn't put any of those things on a registry. Just use any cash you receive at the wedding to buy them.

I know some registries allow for joint giving, so a few people could pitch in together to give you one, or get you partly there and you could pay for the rest. I would do that because it is such an expensive item. I don't think it's rude to ask for one, but you probably just wouldn't give it unless you have very generous/wealthy guests.

Put 'em on, you never know...plus a lot of places give you a discount afterward on things you didn't get.

The worse that could happen is you don't get it. Maybe you will get gift cards instead, then you can combine them to purchase.

If no one get it, you can always use the discount the store give you to buy it afterwards. I am registered some expensive items knowing no one will get it for us. But we can use the discount the store giving us with the gift card we may be getting to purchase the item.

I would put it on there, the worst that could happen is you don't get it but I don't think there's a difference between that and a kitchen aid mixer in regards to expense. If you don't get it you can always use the discount they give you after your wedding to buy it cheaper.

I would put cash gifts towards a washing machine and dryer. If you have close family members who either want to spend more money on you than the typical registry gifts or who specifically tell you they want to get you something you really want, you can bring it up to those individuals.

    I would rather buy you a $500 washer than a $500 vase...just saying.

I would ask a few family members, see what they recommend. They may let you know how much money your friends and family are planning on spending, or if they've been talking to each other about going in together for joint gift giving, etc. Just do a little detective work. Go fishing and see what they say.

I honestly am not sure and am gonna follow to see what others say...and someone may have mentioned it before but depending on where you register they may give you a discount on any remaining registry items that went unperchased so you may be able to buy it yourself at a discount if no one gets it for you...although that may not be the case either...I don't know, I'd add it on the off chance that I could get my myself and use a discount lol

I would suggest to your registry if gift cards could be purchased instead of actual gifts. So, if you get get, say 25 gift cards of over $100 each, then that would go to your washing machine. I think people would prefer that and you won't sound "greedy" (lol).

I think one concern would be scheduling delivery. Delivery and install of an appliance is very different than traditional registry items. The logistics don't work.
