Registry, honeymoon fund, or nothing at all?

Shalla, on February 13, 2021 at 9:27 PM Posted in Registry 0 18
Hey ladies, so this topic has been an up in the air discussion for the FH and I? Idk about other brides but I feel so out of place on this topic on whether we want to ask for gifts for our home, or ask to contribute to our honey moon , even though it’s already booked, or just not include it at all. We currently have not added anything to this section on our wedding website and don’t know if we even want to. Any comments on this would be helpful. Thank you in advance☺️

I think of the wedding registry as a way to ask for upgrades on items you and your future spouse already own. You might already have pans that work, but you could ask for some amazing dream All Clad pans that you'd never buy yourself! If you are dead set against a registry, you don't actually need to put anything. If you don't, guests will most likely just give you cash.

Thank you. I’m not sure if it’s a dead set thing. I guess for myself I’m just not used to asking for stuff like that so it’s like an “are we supposed to” thing.

I'm pro registry. It's wonderful to get gifts for your home as a married couple, and the gifts can also include experience things like outdoor gear, cookbooks and kits, etc if you have everything you want

We did a Honeyfund AND very small retail registries. You can do both. Honeyfund makes it easy to link out to popular retail registries.

I'm also pro registry, as I like giving the couple something physical opposed to cash. If you're having a bridal shower, a small registry is definitely needed, as cash isn't really a standard gift for showers. I've lived with my FH for almost 5 years now so we pretty much have everything, but I'm just asking for upgrades of things we have and things we've bookmarked but don't want to spend money on ourselves (tool set, hedge trimmer, wine chiller, etc). Honeymoon funds are becoming more popular, but some guests may frown upon it.

I think registries are a blast, and I love buying couples gifts off of them, so I think it can be a fun thing for your guests. I don’t like giving cash, as it seems impersonal. I much prefer buying the couple something really special that would make them happy!

We own our home & don’t need more things to put in it. I’ve seen some comments that everybody could always use new towels, sheets etc- I DON’T! We only have a honeymoon fund - there’s nothing listed on our website. C

We're doing a regular registry because that is common among our social circles and families. They would refuse to contribute to a honeymoon fund as none of them gift cash for any occasion and would give us gifts we wouldn't want nor be able return if we didn't have a registry.

We did both. We had lived together for a while, and in a small space, so upgrades/replacements were wanted, but we didn't have to kit out a whole house.

That said, anyone who wanted to gift us an experience, instead, was welcome to.

...We also got a LOT of cash/checks.

We opted not to do a registry because we already have everything we need for our home. I don’t care for the honeymoon fund personally. If you don’t designate a gift people will most likely just give you cash which you can use for anything

We added a few basic things to our registry that you can always use and we also added a cash fund in case anyone wanted to contribute to that as well.

I would use this rule that my sister taught me when she got married:

Do you care more about the honeymoon or your life afterward? After all, your honeymoon might be your one and only chance to go wherever it is you are going. In that case, ask for a honeymoon fund... even a few extra dollars would help. If you travel a lot, though, I would ask for registry items, to improve you life at home.

I hope this helps, and congrats on your wedding!
