Hii everyone, would love some advice on this!

We have a September 2021 wedding planned in Spain. Half of the guests are coming from the US and half of the guests are coming from France. For those coming from France, this is a very reasonable distance and nothing out of the ordinary. Obviously for those coming from the US, it's a different story.

Registries are traditional in France according to my (French) fiancé and he feels like it would be strange not to have one, but I feel equally strange about asking the American guests for gifts when they are spending so much time/money to get to our wedding. The idea of a "honeyfund" is a possibility but I'm still trying to get past the feeling my US based guests will be like, ..really? Lol. That being said, I have a few people who already told me that they cannot attend and asked me for my registry. UGH help.

Oh no you won't be able to have your wedding in June? Smiley sad that's too bad, I'm sorry. Good point about people being stubborn lol that's very true.

I agree! Very thoughtful of you to consider the expenses of all your guests! Of course as a lot of other ladies said, you can have a registry and it doesn't;t mean that everyone has to buy things from it.

Both parties are traveling and therefore you aren’t asking anything different from one side vs the other. Perhaps it’s less expensive to travel but people often have destination weddings and I imagine still get gifts.

My fiancé and I have been together for 5 years. He has a house, I have an apartment. We have fully furnished housing x2, so we decided on doing a “honeymoon fund”. For those guests that are very traditional we did have a few items picked out on a registry.

I wouldn’t do the honey fund but a traditional registry is perfectly acceptable and will most likely be expected.

Hi ! Actually most of the french couples don't have a registry... It's mostly because they already live together before the wedding. They usually ask for money for their honeymoon, so they have a money fund or just a box for envelopes at the wedding. People can donate what they want this way...

My fiancé was pretty adamant about us needing a normal registry so we do have one but in additional to a cash fund which he said is more common. So that makes sense. Smiley smile
