Registry item swap out

Shannon, on October 13, 2020 at 10:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I need some advise I wasn’t expecting something like this to happen.
We registered at Macy’s and bed bath and beyond. I had picked out three different sizes of Martha Stewart Dutch Ovens in specific colors at Macy’s that were probably the most exciting items on the registry to me lol I am not having a bridal shower, it’s a destination wedding and just too much. My aunt had texted me saying take the Dutch Ovens off your list I got them. Then I get a package from Kohl’s from her of three Dutch ovens that are not what I had picked out, the brand, sizes and colors are all slightly off. Ex. I picked out a dark blue 8qt and got a red 7qt.
I feel so horrible that I don’t like them/upset that I didn’t get what I picked out. Do I say something? Would that be rude? I feel like such a brat and I don’t want to hurt her feelings but I also plan on having these for a long time and want to love them.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I wouldn't say anything. At the end of the day, registries are suggestions. I got random stuff I didn't ask for either. It happens. I feel like there are 2 main options: either see if you can sell them without her ever finding out or use them cuz they're still dutch ovens.

My husband's four aunts when in on a dish set for us, but they got the wrong size plates. We took the plates back to the store and exchanged them for the correct size. The correct size were more expensive so we paid the difference. We didn't say anything to any of the aunts.

Registries are just wish lists. Send a prompt thank you card. Wait till other gifts come in and then exchange gifts back to the stores. But don't say a word to your guests. Exchanging gifts is very common.

I'd just send a thank you note, don't say anything, and exchange them later for the ones you actually wanted. For the record, we easily exchanged or sold all of the off-registry gifts that we received and nobody ever found out.

Just leave them on the registry (probably she won't check it again). After the wedding, return the ones she got, go to Macy's (order at Macy's) the ones you want, and take advantage of the registry fulfillment discount Smiley smile . For now, just send a thank you note.

I would return them now since they may be outside of the return window by the time your wedding comes around. You can def wait til after the wedding to get the discount though!

Don't say anything to your aunt. If she notices your blue one and asks, tell her a white lie that the fulfillment center sent the wrong color.

P.S.: I love cast iron and you should totally check out Le Creuset! They are pricey but super nice and high quality. Their outlets often have great sales.

I'd just swap it for the one you like and don't say anything except "thank you" to your aunt.

I would just exchange them for the ones you want. She likely will never know.
