Registry items that are tacky?

Winter Bride, on October 5, 2017 at 5:50 PM Posted in Registry 0 18

Hi all. I would like an idea or examples of tacky registry items? Zola allows you to do a group gift on an item. What are your thoughts on group gifts on tangible necessities?

It's kinda cool in my opinion this feature is on Zola but figured I consult WW community Smiley winking Are there strong opinionated folks on the matter etc My FH and I need durable triclimate jackets for winter and year round. How do you feel about great quality jackets to the registry as a group gift? Or should I just buy them after the wedding, skipping the registry?

I think it is a good idea to register for items of different price points so if people want to pitch in as a group to buy a more expensive item they can. I've seen people register for camping gear, but not clothes specifically. It is a bit odd. I recommend just buying the jackets after the wedding.

Usually clothes and food shouldn't show up on a registry, from what I was told. Or pets. Apparently that's a problem too.

I think that jackets are a little odd. I wouldn't call it tacky, but I would probably scroll right past it.

I wouldn't be opposed to buying a jacket as a gift, if it's something you guys want/need and would use it more than a salad spinner then I would get it. My friend registered for paddle boards, Polaroid cameras and a roof rack for their car. All of which I thought were super cool and showed their personalities!

I think that registries should only include things for both of you. I think it's fine to include items for shared hobbies like camping or board games. But I think it's weird to include things that are only for 1 person.

I think the jackets can be an exception if you are outdoorsy and ask for 1 for each of you

They are two jackets, yes. They r super handy future hubby and I would love to move to even colder climate. Preparing for the 2 of us Smiley smile The group gift idea came to mind cause they are probably the most expensive thing on our registry and a vaccuum is high up there in price too

I've been wondering about that group gifting option too. Part of me says it's like asking for money, which is a huge no-no, but part of me also says that you're still asking for it towards a specific item, so it's not like a honeyfund.

I'm probably going to end up saying that if you have enough wedding guests who know each other - leave them to their own devices and they can group gift you something big if they want to. I don't think most people will want to do the semi-impersonal thing of just donating money virtually towards a large item-they'd sooner give you a check in a card or go in and buy you the whole thing with other friends.

Just as a ps, group gifting on Zola just gives you the money and you have to actually buy the gift. I looked into Zola at first but then I did not like the idea of people contributing $ and then I'd have to buy the gift :-( so I went with Amazon instead

I was going to say, if they’re Canada Goose or Wully coats, maybe? I’ve never seen anything registered as a group item but I know that as a BM, I’ve done group gifts for showers. Most shower registries I’ve seen have price points from $5-$500 and people mix and match. Usually the higher priced items are there for the completion discount.

I think it is a fantastic idea when there are people that might not have a ton of money to spend, this way they can all pitch in for a nice gift. For co workers or some family members this works great.

For one of our co workers she registered for four of the four piece place setting dinnerware sets. We were able to get her all four as one gift from all of us. That way she had her entire seating for 12 right off the bat.

Register for whatever you need/want... friends/family are happy to know what theyre getting for you guys!

I will say this, I just went to a shower where she registered for very few gifts and had several group-gift registries, I thought that was a little on the rude side because it was a shower and they're basically asking for money yet we're still expected to give them money on the wedding day.
