Registry Must-haves

CourtneyBrittain, on May 18, 2019 at 9:37 PM Posted in Registry 0 11

So FH and I just got our apartment (as in just started moving in today, yay!) and I was wondering if you lovely WW people had any specific suggestions for registry "must haves" in your opinion! I'm open to hearing anything, any price! We are registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, and Amazon. If you advise registering other places too just let me know! Thank you all Smiley smile

Congrats on the apartment and good luck moving in!
One of my biggest wants on my registry was my KitchenAid stand mixer. Everyone I know who has one absolutely loves it and says it’s well worth the price. Cast iron skillets are amazing for cooking (Crate & Barrel has an awesome 7 piece set), as well as Dutch ovens. I absolutely love my crockpot so that’s another great item. Nice bedding is always a good registry item and people do love buying bedding off registries. Those were the few I could think of off the top of my head right away! A lot of mine were kitchen related as I love cooking/baking. Hope that helps a bit. 😊

Thank you! If you don't mind my asking, what do you use a dutch oven for?

There’s so much you can use it for! It’s excellent for long, slow cooking and braising so it’s used a lot for soups/stews/beans. You can also roast, make bread, etc. Many great recipes out there! It is very heavy, but well worth the investment as they are long lasting and because of the way they hold and transfer heat, they cook food very well all around.

Bath sheets! I can’t use regular sized towels anymore, I’ve been spoiled 😂😩 I also really love my pizza stone. I cook everything on it from the obvious pizzas to cookies.

Congrats! We've lived together for a few years now, so we are mostly using our registry as a way to upgrade things. For instance, we registered for some high end pots and pans and knives, a coffee maker, new towels, a bar cart, etc. Basically, anything for the home is fair game on a registry as the purpose is gifts for the couple. With kitchen stuff, even if only 1 person does the cooking, the other party usually still reaps the benefits lol.

There are a few kitchen things I wouldn’t be without:
    - my KitchenAid mixer, which I LOVE so much! I bake quite a bit so it gets a lot of use.
    - My slow cooker - in winter, it’s so nice to come home and dinner is cooked. Very little effort required in the morning - throw in meat, veggies and stock/liquid and you’re pretty much done.
    - I agree with a Dutch oven - super useful for dishes which go cooktop to oven too.
    - A big stock pot is invaluable (I have three stock pots in different sizes and I use them all)
    - a nice toaster! We got a four slice one which is two sets of two, so we can have one side set to how I like my toast and one side set to how DH likes his - no arguments about how dark toast should be!
    - A good set of knives.

Don’t be afraid of one or two indulgent picks. We put a towel warmer and fan on our registry. They were the first two things purchased.

Also, try to be mindful of a range of prices. I found people liked buying a lot of little things. Personally, I registered for a baking set and no one was buying it. I broke it into individual pieces and half of them got purchased

My biggest advice for registry items, is if the item feels cheap then it is cheap. Regardless of what it is, whether it's pots and pans or a knife set, look for items that have heft behind them. My parents still have the same knife set from their wedding 30 years ago because they were made from good materials.

Sheets! Sheets! Sheets! I am registered for like 4 different sheet sets. This is mostly because as much as I try to stay on top of laundry, sometimes I just cannot be bothered with it. Towels are another thing you can never have enough of. Go to town on adding those.

In terms of kitchen stuff, unless you're an avid baker, I would skip out on the KitchenAid mixer especially if you have a whole house to fill with registry items. I opted for the handheld one and it cost $40 on sale. I would definitely register for a nice set of pots and pans. The point of your registry is to put things on there that you have a hard time buying for yourself. I suggest the Chrissy Teigen set from Target (love them!). A cast iron skillet or two will also be beneficial.

Okay gotta go, all this talk of registry items is making me want to add more to my own. Have fun!

We haven’t officially begun our registry yet but coming up with a list of things I want to add is a favorite pastime of mine during slow work days lol. Aside from all the obvious kitchen/bed/bath things, I’m also planning to add 2-3 beach towels, 2 beach chairs, and a cooler or cooler bag to our list! Sure we could buy those things ourselves, but this way we can ask for slightly nicer versions than we would have gotten ourselves and they should last us years since we would only use them seasonally.
