So I really don't want a lot of gifts and since there is no good way to only ask for monetary gifts...I saw that the Target Gift Registry has an option for gift cards for $5 to $1000. I can go to Target and buy an AMEX or Visa gift card with the Target gift card...

Is this too much??

I give cash or giftcards when I go to a wedding precisely for that reason. People are going to give you what they're going to give you, regardless of what you ask for lol (10 blenders, anyone?.) I've noticed that there are people who buy gifts for a couple without even bothering to look at a registry anyway. As for us, I put on our wedding website registry area that we're registered at Macy's and Target, but no links, and then have a link to our honeymoon registry so they can go there. Kind of like "hey, you feel like buying us an item, we're registered at these stores. But we really need money for our honeymoon." without actually saying any of that. We have a honeymoon registry for people who want to give monetary gifts but don't want to bring cash to the wedding. We can use the money towards what we want and they don't have to worry about getting us anything we don't need...if they were worried about it in the first place. X-D (cont)

You're right @Yardie. We walk a fine line between being rude and saying "look, we appreciate what you're giving us, but we really don't need it." How many toasters does a person need, really? You just have to be subtle and creative about the way you go about letting people know what you could really use and what would be really appreciated.

Sorry if i'm too late, but if you haven't seen depositagift.com in the registry area, check it out. easy way to avoid this non-sensical dance around gifts, cash preferences, etc. you can register for what you want cash towards. gift cards are a pain. anyways, we just got married and had an awesome experience with deposit a gift. for our registry we did the honeymoon and new furniture. guests loved it and it was way more practical for all involved.
