Registry when you plan to move cross country

Jamie, on September 20, 2019 at 8:57 PM Posted in Registry 0 4
So my fiancee and I have been struggling with some "down the road" planning. We plan to likely be moving cross country for her grad school a year after the wedding (you apply a year out). And so any big items would likely be tossed or have to be sold before the move. We know that we'd likely have the best chance getting something like gift cards/cash or just small things (like linens or replacement kitchenware) but trying to say "hey yeah give us cash because...because." Is kinda skeevy.

We havent told our families about the move yet, we know that some of them will be bitter about it so we're waiting until its a sure thing before we tell them. (The move is nothing against them, we have stuff we gotta do that we cant do here).

Do y'all have any suggestions? We're young people that can't afford to ship a house worth of furniture that far.

The general consensus seems to be, don't register and people will gift cash. Some people get real angry about Honeyfunds.

I’m in this same situation. Our wedding is out of state, so i didn’t register and put on my wedding website “due to us traveling, monetary gifts are recommended and appreciated” i also told my parents to spread the word

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Jamie!!

You only have to register for items that you really want or feel like you need. Try not to feel pressured to add loads of items to your registry that you have no intention of using or keeping. If someone is buying you a gift, they want to feel like it is something that you really want and will love.

If there are some larger items that you would love and feel like they will be useful after your move, do you have the option of shipping some boxes once you have moved? Or have you considered hiring a moving truck that you will be able to fill with larger items?

If you are okay skipping a bridal or couples shower, maybe just make a small registry of things that will be affordable & easy to move? Then people can use that if they want, or just gift cash.
