My fiancee and I are both women and are wanting to start a family soon after our wedding in May. Instead of going the traditional route and doing a registry we wanted come up with a clever way for people to raise money for our future family because we will be purchasing from a donor. We have been together for almost 10 years and have lived together for over 5 and therefore have a lot of things that many couples would get on their registry. We would love some advice on a clever way to make this work! (We thought something along the lines of a money tree but we want people to know what it's going to be used for)

This, exactly. Most people know money is a good wedding gift. And you can use the money you receive for anything you want (that's the beauty of money!). I wouldn't say anything unless people ask, and then feel free to answer honestly. No need to try to be clever.

I’ve seen people do a honeymoon fund leading up to the wedding and even during the wedding. There is also a money dance that is very common, at least for Hispanic/Latino families. I seen nothing wrong with starting a “surrogate fund” “baby fund” or something like that. Even doing a money dance and announcing that all money given will be used towards starting a family 🙂 I’d much rather put money towards the couple starting a family than buying a toaster that’ll probably get tossed out in a year or two 🤦🏻‍♀️

I also don't think it is tacky at all in this day and age. I agree with the suggestions above about telling a few friends. Maybe even add a line to your "about us" page about saving up to grow your family. Between that, and not registering, I think folks will get the picture. Congrats on your upcoming nuptuals.

We’re doing a honeymoon fund, as we have been together for six years and have lived together for 3. We don’t need more things lol. I personally worried about it being rude initially, but after talking with my parents and others (funny enough, my grandma actually recommended it), I decided to do it. I used the website honeyfund, and included that link on our website along with a description explaining why we chose this option and that the only real gift we want is for guests to be there. We’re also going to have a cute little honeymoon fund box at the wedding for those who would rather give cash gifts. Many people are taking this route and I don’t think it’s rude at all. People can choose not to donate. There are definitely options for you and your partner, I wouldn’t do a GoFundMe, but I would research other options!

This! We were going to set a honeyfund up through my registry and it’s through paypal with fees. So I said forget it, if people want to give money they will. We have some registry items and I’m on the fence about adding more or just leaving it be and hoping people will opt for cash gifts instead of things. FH is a little worried since we don’t have a lot of space for getting too many items bc we are limited on storage space in our apartment and don’t have plans to buy a house until after the wedding.
